Home Insurance

We are moving to a new house next month. My business insurance agent, who doesn't do "personal" insurance, insisted several times to call TD for a quote, and says everyone he speaks to in the industry says they cheapest around.

The company we deal with on our current house quoted $1100 for our new house. The TD online calculator quoted me $400.

I will be calling them on Monday to confirm this rate.

Anybody use TD for home? Were they truly cheaper when you shopped around?

I use TD and I pay $67/mo on a 382K house in Milton in the downtown area.

I got a question regarding this.

My parents sold got a premium for their house so they sold it. They also own a rental condo property. They are currently leasing a house. They tried to get insurance for the rental condo, but TD told them they have to get renters insurance for themselves at their current residence before they can get home insurance for the condo. The person renting has renter's insurance...

Is this for real? do they really have to get renter's insurance?

1)Yes. (bike too)

2)Oh yes, very much so. ($440 / yr = 50% saving for me)

Also - TD is the only Ins Co I've dealt with in 35 yrs that didn't send some "Dick Tracy" dude to do a home inspection prior to binding coverage.
(if you have CAA coverage, call them for quotes on everything. Saved me 50% from the next best quote on my truck)

p.s. Sandro - if you're nice, they may give you a donut :-)

Thanks Gary.

I plugged in numbers for a potential liter bike for next season, and their rates were quite good. Even with my type of driving record, which I divulged in their quoting machine. ;)

For the auto, they were comparable to what we're paying now.

Donuts? Nah, I like pierogies. :p

OT, but let's hear a bit about what bike you were getting quotes on?
My driving record is clean. For the bike I have now, SF wanted $2200 and TD is $1140 with lower deductables ($500)

Let's bust out the sour cream one day :p

Sure...I'll bite and love to talk bikes anytime anyways.

I'm a Honda guy at heart. Back when I was looking for a bike, had my heart set on a VFR800 (almost bought one, even had a deposit on it). Only bought the bimmer cos I got a really good deal on it, but it really is a fun bike to ride. Just needs more hp.

Hankering for a 09-10 CBR1000 (CBR600 is simply too small and uncomfortable for me. Although, if I came across a 09+ Kawi ZX6-R, Id seriously consider it. Rented one at Turn2 last year, and it was quite good and fit me well). Back to the CBR1000......must be used, low mileage, MUST have ABS. TD quoted $1300 with a non clean record. :)

Nice choice, nice Ins rate too, even with all those DUI's and 172's and 203's etc :p :p :p :p

I just can't picture you being happy owning a ZX6R tho

Those oil stains under the bike and in the garage don't look to promising. hehe.

Gary, "riding days are done"....what the 'ell u talkin' bout???

no excuses!

This sounds like the two properties / policies are being bundled and I thought bundling was a no-no. They should have renters insurance for the leased house to protect their contents and something for liability but I can't see why that would relate to them having a condo that they rent out, especially when the condo renter has coverage.
I can't see why they would have to double up on that. The condo corporation would have insurance on the common elements and the renter insurance covers the furniture, interior coverings etc.
Even if there was a possibility of an event at the rented condo coming back at them that wouldn't affect the house insurance. If they are worry warts I suppose the could get some liability coverage for the condo but again there is no obvious link to the house.

Kneezles.

I told you to get new ones.

This is the guy that services my WEDM machines. He's in his late 60s. He has either 2 new knees and a hip, or 2 new hips and a knee (can't remember which). He's out on the Waterfront Trail on his bicycle every day.

Easier said than done.
Dude in the pic may have had 'double hip', but not another knee.
You only get one shot at a TKR, and if you break it after the surgery, your future isn't bright.
I don't want to be riding and thinking about that (if I do get the TKR x 2).

If he adds a few Hayabusa stickers, he'll be all set! :lmao:

Ok BROTHERS. If I see you both 2 up'n that thing on the Parkway, I'll buy it.
