HJC helmets

The first thing I look for in a lid is the latest SNELL approval sticker.

I had a little got off a few years back that involved me making contact, head first, with a concrete wall. I was wearing my then brand new HJC. I replaced it with another one and I also bought one for my wife.

Intersting factiod - HJC stands for Han Jing Crown

don't think so wasabe - the blurb below is from the linked site - I see I was off a little - it's actually Hong Jin Crown Corp.

While most businesses in Korea were suffering losses over the last couple of years, one company made ``tremendous profits,'' as one company representative put it.

What's even more surprising it that they did this by making and exporting motorcycle helmets.

Currently a top exporter of safety helmets in Korea, Hong Jin Crown Corp. has helped establish ``Made In Korea'' as a ``pride label'' among motorcycle equipment manufacturers around the globe, including the U.S., Europe and Japan, its chief markets.

The company, established in 1971, began exporting helmets to the ...

Really? I have heard nothing but bad things about ICON helmets, and are actually considered in 3rd tier of helmets, as oppose to HJC being in the top spot in 2nd tier helmets.
As for ppl laughing at you cuz you wear an HJC is just plain retarded, liek i said they fit me really good, and im not a label whore, so what do i care.

Sorry AJ guy,
I'm think you and Lance need to do your homework.

If I recall correctly,
I'm pretty sure Icon Helmets are contract manufactured by HJC for Icon in the main HJC Factory.

Can anybody else verify this ??

Corporation or company whatever it is.. I guess I translated it wrong.
I wonder where the 'Crown' in the English name came from tho.

I believe you are correct. Many factories make product for various brands. For example, the Giant bicycle factory in Taiwan makes bicycles for other brands like Specialized and Trek.

i started with an HJC and then went to a RF 1000. The Shoei fits me a lot better and the fit / finish is second to none...after 2 seasons and 30000 kms, the Shoei looks brand new, 2 seasons with my HJC and it looked like 10 seasons. i really like the removable liners in the Shoei too

You could be right, i never heard this and just read the other day how ICON was a lower standard then HJC, i mean if thats the case then they would be similar in quality no?

One of the GP sales guys told me Icon was made by HJC. I own an HJC for the same reason many others have already posted. It fit my head the best. hjc ac-12 Yikes. It does feel much heavier then others, but does also have removable liners for washing, and takes only a few seconds to switch visors.

i have the same lid that is used for 90% of my riding

Thats just it, the fit and finish on an hjc or an icon is nowhere close to a shoei, shark, or arai protection wise they wil al do the same thing

i think they are jerks.

HJC makes decent helmets, v. reasonably-priced. DOT approved.

Hey hey they may not be jerks... just uneducated lable whore losers! lol.

Ive got an HJC, Shoei and Scorpion. HJC is the best bang for the buck and the fit is not bad either.

i just bought the fs-15 by hjc, and it fits like a glove.

Not a fan of my HJC AC-12 but for the price, it's a good helmet. Just noisy and really sucks at wind protection esp the chin area. I wouldn't spend my money on an HJC here in Canada since for the price, you could buy a much better helmet. But I got mine from New Enough for just over $100...will make for a good back up / passenger helmet

i paid around 150 bucks for my HJC CL-SP..
the fit and ventilation is great.. i've never tried other helmets yet, but i could feel that it's doing it's job very well..

My HJC fits great but I will never buy another one.

I've owned two but there is just way too much wind noise.

They are known to be very noisey.

I want to be able to hear my grand children laugh some day.

This Christmas a Shoei is at the top of my list.

P.S. Don;t leave home without your earplugs when wearing an HJC.

I don't have anything to compare against but I was very surprised at the wind noise with my HJC. I'm tall and have a long skinny neck and no real fairing, and I found that a lot of noise was from wind whistling under the helmet so now if I go riding out of town I wear a helmet skirt. It keeps my neck warm, dirt and bugs don't sting my neck at speed, and the noise is much reduced. With the helmet skirt I can just barely hear the engine, whereas before I couldn't hear it at all.

If you're questioning the safety of an HJC vs. an Arai or Shoei, you should probably have a look at this site: http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/

It only has European models (so some of them we don't get, others they don't get, and some of them are named differently) but it really reinforces that a helmet's safety has nothing to do with its price. Also, you'll notice each manufaturer's helmet is not the same from a safety perspective either.
