HJC helmets

i know another helmet thread, but im posting this because all this helmet has me excited about helmet buying. Now I ordered the akuma from a while back, but I have to say that my HJC was the best fitting helmet I have ever owned.
Dont get me wrong i have never owned a arai, shoei or suomy( wont spend $700 for a helmet sorry), but have tried them all on in store, and my HJC was pretty damn close to feeling good on.
They are the top selling helmet in north america and they have a ton of designs for reasonable prices, i could buy like 3 diff os these then 1 of the 3 top of the lines.
I just wanted to know if anyone else felt this way about there HJC helmets. Im gonna go buy a new one next month just cuz the new designs are pretty killer.

I've owned 2 HJC helmets and if you get their top of their line stuff. They're actually pretty good. My HJC AC-12 (which I have for sale right now) was actually more quiet than my Shark. The liner however was not as plush and soft. I did like its visor-changing system. I can swap visors in literally seconds and not much buffeting on the hwy. Overall they're good bang for the buck. I found a smoking deal on a shoei RF-1000 though so I'll be picking up one of those.

HJC are great helmets. Ive had my HJC cl-sp for 3 yrs. ive gotten only a little use out of it.. roughly 2 months. Recently i got my Icon Domain Decay. It Fits my head (stuck inbetween small and medium) much better. Price wise. my HCJ was 300 and change and my Icon was 480ish. Both helmets are worth there weight in gold. To Add, the padding in the 2 theres no comparison, the Icon is far greater then the HJC.

The only problem I had with my HJC FG-12 was after a year my visor would always fly up when doing shoulder checks over 120km/h

the new HJC's (at least on my AC-12) has a visor locking system and its very secured. Even when I didn't use it I never had problems with my visor coming off though. They're getting better and better just think of them as Hyundai. Good bang for the buck.

Safety wise i think all pretty much the same.. but i got friends that will never be caught alive wearing a HJC.. They think its a cheap brand...And make fun of people wearing them.. For me i could care less a helmet is a helmet.. buy what you can afford, I think u pay more many for the brand, then its the little things like alittle weight and comfort level .. To me most important is the FIT..

only two helmets have ever fit me comfortably. An AGV Titech, which is essentially a racing helmet, and a Vega Altura. I bought the vega (to get through my riding course)

Really? I have heard nothing but bad things about ICON helmets, and are actually considered in 3rd tier of helmets, as oppose to HJC being in the top spot in 2nd tier helmets.
As for ppl laughing at you cuz you wear an HJC is just plain retarded, liek i said they fit me really good, and im not a label whore, so what do i care.

i had an hjc, it did the job, then i got a shark rsr 2 felt much better now i also have a rf 1000, for the money an hjc will do the trick while keeping your head safe, i dont wear mine anymore just because i like the other 2 better

2008 is my first season riding so I just needed a lid for my head for the training course, after which I was going to decide if motorcycle riding was my 'thing'. So I got this FG.12 for, yeah, about 1/4 the price of a arai, shoei or suomy.
I've had no problems with it. The visor only goes where and when I move it. Like someone else said, you can swap visors in about 15 seconds, no tools required and when the visor is down all the way, it provides a complete seal.
The one thing I have noticed (though I have no specific data/research to back this up), my HJC helmet feels a bit heavier compared to most arai / shoei / suomy helmets i've picked up; but this is just my observation. I guess this could mean a bit more fatigue on a rider over the long-haul.

I'd buy another HJC helmet for my next lid. Maybe in the off-season, no rush.

I bought an HJC at the show to first get me through my riding course. After wearing it for a few months (about 3000 km), I couldn't stand it for long periods of time. The noise, the wind made my eyes water and the weight hurt my neck. I thought about quitting riding as I was never comfortable. A friend suggested I buy a shoei when we were at a bike night (paid $400 taxes in, NOT $700). I actually bought it there, wore it home and put the other in a friends shad bag. It was light, no noise, no wind through it, eyes never water and it barely felt like I was wearing a helmet. I was like OHHH THIS IS what it's supposed to feel like. I've worn it for 9 hour rides and my neck still felt better than the butt did. I'll never go back. Not worth it to me, totally worth the extra $150 I spent over the original purchase. I noticed that the shoei fits my cheek bones better (girl cheeks!) and I have a larger range of vision. The only thing the HJC was better at than the shoei was not fogging.

From my experience i love my icon. Alot less wind noise then my HJC (stuck usin it this week till i can go pay the shop lol they have my icon held ransom =P ). Feels lighter and my head dosnt bobble as much flyin down the highway (even tucked in with the HJC it still was a problem for me).
But to each there own opinion really. and in the event of a crash, im pretty sure the HJC and Icon will do the same job.

My girlfriend recently dropped her helmet (Vega) and the next day i forgot to bring my sisters helmet for her to use, so i said give me the vega and take my icon (my passenger, my responsibility) Personally didnt like the vega. When we got back to my house, my gf had fallen in love with the icon, which fit her pretty well since shes a small and the helmet is a medium. Shes puttin her money aside and savin a bit for the bike show this winter. Im puttin some aside too... and if i find a deal on a good helmet that fits me even better, then i guess ill add to my collection.

This has probably been mentioned before but a few years back one of the M/C mags (Motorcyclist I think) did a comparo on a lot of popular helmets from the standpoint of safest/most effective. As I recall, it was one of the cheapo helmets that won beating out the medium and high priced lids. Mind you, I also seem to recall that not all brands wanted to take part so I don't know if it really was a fair test.

I think basically all DOT and or Snell helmets will do the job of protecting you in all but the severest of accidents so the reason for buying a higher priced helmet may really be for fit and finish.

I must have a really standard head as most everything I've tried has been comfortable enough. I currently ride with HJC, Icon and GMax and they all feel fine to me. I've tried my neighbour's Arai and Shoei and to me they feel no different. One thing I did notice about the Arais I've tried in stores is that they feel a bit narrower ( and thus tighter at the sides of the skull) than my helmets. In addition, I find sizing can be different as I normally wear a large but I had to get the Icon in an XL as the large was just too tight.

Getting the right fit is really crucial and for new riders I'd recommend they get sized and buy from a knowledgeable local retailer. Buying over the net can save money but you might not a comfortable fit as was previously mentioned. Just because it fits in the store doesn't mean the same model bought elsewhere will. If its not comfortable, it will take your attention away from the ride and that could have deadly consequences.

My 2cents.

Ride safe,

I have a CL-SP and a Shoei X-11. One difference I notice between the two is that the padding on the Shoei is way way more snug compared to the HJC, even when the it is worn more than the HJC. Due to that reason I like the Shoei more. In terms of weight, noise and ventilation, I do not notice any difference that is noticable while I am riding.

I've got the same one, only in green. I've had it for 3 years/45,000 kms of riding and its in decent shape. The rubber trim on the bottem has started to come loose, and the visor flips up freely now on shoulder checks.

But otherwise its been a very comfortable helmet and I'm pleased with it. I'll likely be picking up a new one come spring.

I am not a fan of HJC helmets. I have 2 of them. They were midrange helmets at the time, never tried any of the high end helmets from HJC. I had an icon helmet which was an average helmet, nothing special about it. I will never cheap out on helmets again. I currently have a BMW Enduro helmet, and it is worth every penny I paid. I figure my head is in my helmet day in and day out for 8 months of the year, why cheap out? My helmet is light, and more comfortable then anything I have worn before.

The right fit is most important. I only wear HJC, because it is the only one that fits me properly/comfortably. I just feel lucky that they are a decent price. If it was the $700 arai that fit me the best I would buy one of those... arai, shoei, shark, icon, agv, never seem to fit me properly though, I seem to be an "inbetween" size for those brands.

Thats exactly like me, it seems only HJC fits me perfect. I tried shark yert and heard good things about them.

I was helmet shopping a month or so ago and tried on lots of brands and I sort of had my heart set on an Icon with rubatone finish but at the end of the day I ended up with an HJC and in fact picked up the display model (normally I prefer the minty fresh ones still in the box) because it was the last one in plain black.

The HJC just fit my head the best in the price bracket I was working with. I couldnt justify getting anything else. The Gmax also fit quite well and I found the inside to be very "plush" and comfortable. HJC seem to be good value for money and I don't think I can justify spending 5 times more on a premium brand helmet unless its 5 times better.

The worst fitting for me was the KBC VR2. Im a large for HJC and an XL for KBC gave me a headache in 10 seconds.

HJC gets my approval. And to the guy with the friends who laugh at people with HJC helmets... You realize they are pretentious pathetic jerks right?

Why laugh? Is it "ha ha, look at that poor person with a cheap helmet. They are so poor..ha hah ha" or is it because they are the self-imposed style commitee of the streets and say " ha ha, that helmet is soooo last year...That poor person really takes the fab out of fabulous!! "
