Hit or Flop? Ford Maverick

Accord and "4" door civics only the CVT available, no-one wants to change gears anymore. CVT while meh, pretty reliable.
I'm glad honda figured out cvt. I was reading some hilarious threads of someone that purchased a used morano and warranty and wanted to know how to blow the tranny to get a new one under warranty. He had pages of suggestions. Ultimately, he hit the gas at a light and boom. Lasted less than a week. I have no idea why anyone buys a Nissan with a cvt.

Honda’s focus for the last 10 years has been to redefine banausic. I don’t know how much more uninteresting they can make their products?

The cheapest Civic you can buy today is $28500 out the door. For me to even think of a Civic, the would need to be value priced, like my 80 CVCC. For that money I’d roll in a nicely equipped Jetta.

The new 2022 Civic "hatchback" variant WILL come with a manual option

The new type R will be manual only.

All hope is not lost.

Sadly, the 21 Accords no longer have a manual option. Grab a 20 while you can.

If folks are honest. The Honda cvt is VERY good. I'd dare say one of the best.
Best like the best 3.2% beer?

Being the best in a boring contest doesn’t bring a lot of bragging rights.

Still feels like driving a golf cart.

Because you have people like my parents.

Bought an 89 Nissan Sentra, and have NEVER tried out another brand. Literally my dad can’t stand Nissan and he still buys it. Mom believes the seats are best for her back….so Nissan it is.
89 Sentra….Pathfinder x2…Rogue x2…Qashqai (I actually like this one).

They will never leave that brand. I will never touch it again after owning my parents Rogue with a CVT (2012). Although if I had a stupid fun car I could be coaxed into the Qashqai as a daily. After 4 years mom barely hit 25,000km.

I have had good luck with Nissan’s. My first was a mid 80s 300 Stillen, then a Q45, finally an Altima.

Biggest downside was depreciation. Fuel economy, maint and repairs were very reasonable

Since the 89 Sentra that I almost wrote off at 17 I can safely say there’s never been a major issue mechanically with their Nissan.

I mean my mom is the typical ‘grandma driving to church on Sunday’s’ driver. Like I said the last 2 cars were 4 years old and they barely cracked 25,000km. So not much to go wrong.

I think the Elantra has closed the gap on the Civic. Better mileage, nicer interior, much better warranty. Civic will win on resale, but that’s pretty much wiped out by the hefty new car price.

Sales figures suggest same.

when you consider civics tend to be more expensive to insure, the TCO will probably favour Elantra by a substantial margin.

Hyundai styling took a huge nose dive lately. eeeesh. Any angle you look at this thing is a mess.

interior isn't much better.

I agree. I can’t even look at the Sonata and Elantra. Horrid (IMO) styling. Whatever they were smoking or snorting….wow must’ve been good.

Man, I do not have that kind of brand loyalty. Probably because I rarely need to "buy a car now". I usually fall into a nice deal on a used unit, and pick it up, then one car dies and I don't replace it until the next good deal comes along. First car was a Datsun 1200. Ran like a top and got great gas mileage. I've had Dodge, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Renault, Volvo, American Motors ('64 Rambler ragtop; that was fun), Pontiac, Chev. Might have forgotten one in there. Some have been great, most good, and only a couple were problematical.

There's something about the front end configuration on the Hyundais that I don't like. There's a series of bumps on the way down a a hill near my place that causes it to jump around. Doesn't do that on other cars. did it with two different Hyundais.

This is one area where Hyundai lags big time. Chassis engineering

Hyundai mainly appeals to what you can see and what you get for the money.

But all the other areas that make a car great get ignored in most Hyundais.
