Hiking + Riding boots?

he's got an ADV.

@bigpoppa buy some touring hard bags and just carry them!
I've been using a tank bag on my 1090 ADVR continuously this season. I find it super convenient and can carry all kinds of crap that I either need, might need or just bought. It's a KTM branded bag for my old SMT990 that I cut/modified the mounting pad so it would fit on my previous 690, and it now fits perfectly on my 1090. I also like that I can snap the map pocket on top as I still like a paper map.

On most of my previous bikes I had side cases, but I found they would get in the way sometimes trying to navigate some places. Admittedly they were probably places that I shouldn't have tried to go, but what the hell.

I also ride frequently in hiking boots that cover my ankle and provide excellent support for my duck-flat feet and orthotics. For me they are a reasonable compromise recognizing the potential for injury in some types of crash.

I can also attest that (my) hiking boots are "water proof" when you step in a puddle but are NOT water proof when riding in the rain.

If you are looking for something a little different five ten impact mid might fit the bill.
Stiff super sticky sole good impact protection not too bad to walk in.

The whole 'steel toe boots chop off your toes' myth was probably started by the same folks who thought that it was better to get 'thrown clear' of a car in a wreck instead of wearing a seat belt. I wouldn't worry about that at all.

That being said, I'd prefer lighter composite toe boots in a crash rather than heavy steel toes. Arms and legs can whip around and really smack the pavement hard.
The only thing that comes to mind is the shin protection of a tall boot.
