High Kms on a 250???

Hey guys, in the market for a ninja 250. I have found one that i really like and thats in my price range, but the milage on the bike reads near 130 000kms. The bike is a 2009 and this does not make sense to me. Do you guys have any idea if this could be an issue with the gauge itself? Should i stay away from such a bike? it seems to run perfect and the bike looks great, just dont know what to do. Thanks for you time!

Welcome to the forum!

Personally, I'd stay away from it as a first bike, there are hundreds of other options to choose from for ninja250s and the like.
May produce more expensive repairs down the road, unless you're aware of all the maintenance and in what frequency it was all done in, and are comfortable with it.
If you like tinkering with it on your own tho, then don't let me stop you!
There are lots of people on here that may disagree with that statement, key people being LoneRonin still on his Ninja250 from my understanding.

Wow thats crazy. Im guessing this bike was probably purchased by somebody that didnt own a car and this bike was their primary form of commuting. Thats my only guess.

Id stay away from it, especially since 250s are so cheap already. Whats the price difference between this bike and the typical 250? It cant be more than like $500? Definitely not worth it.

You can buy a 250 with decent kms and quickly sell it the next year for more or less what you paid for it. Youd have a hard time trying to resell this when you want to upgrade.

That's probably LoneRonins bike

Welcome to the forum, I just so happen to have an 09 Ninja 250 for sale, 22,000 kms. Not that it really means anything to you right now, but I've upgraded the suspension and brakes.

Send me a pm if you are interested

Like others have said, unless you get a deep deep discount on it AND you don't mind troubleshooting mechanical gremlins, pass.

(My new '90 ZX-6 has 196k on the odo. But I like messing with old stuff.)

The best things about used bikes in Canada is the low mileage. It is possible to find mint bikes with super low mileage. I'd look for one of those.

you sure it wasn't 13,000.0 km? I believe the odometer only as 5 digits plus a tenth.

That's probably LoneRonins bike
Lol
That's what I was thinking....but I think he said his insurance is still a biatch. Plus, he seems to really like that 250, and from what other members have said, he rides the eff outta it.

its impossible for it to be at 130,000km the odo rolls over after 99,999.

Guys, I think these 'noobs' are actually a bunch of trolls coming here posting stupid **** just for ***** and giggles, how many high km threads have we had just in the past week?? This is getting to be a bit much.

All the trolls can't be as delightful as myself and the master. #InrebRules

go look at the bike again, I bet you read it wrong ... the ninja 250's have only 5 digits on the odo ... there is no way to get 130,000km to read on that odo ... here's a pic for reference :

Honestly it was a serious question i can send you the link to the kijiji ad where the owner has the kms posted at 110 000, are you sure the kms roll over at 99,000? or is this just a good guess, i will post a pic of the odometer but even the owner who is an experienced rider said it has 130 000kms.

If the owner says it has 130k thats a diffferent story, I think we all assumed you were going on a pic of the odometer. 130k is really high for that bike so you can see why people are skeptical.

And yes, the kms DEFINITELY roll over at 99999. I used to own a 2010 ninja 250r and i actually dug up and old pic i took when my bike was about to roll over to 10,000kms just to double check. I cant figure out how to post it off of my phone but theres definitely only 5 digits plus a tenth.

Post a pic of the odometer. If its truly 130k then the first number on there should be a 3.

Yeah, original post stated that "the odometer shows...."
If the seller is telling you that, that might be a sign of honesty. He could have easily said that it was 30k on it.

Ahh okay i see, im asking the owner to send a picture as i didnt get one when i looked at the bike, and im 99% sure it didnt start with a 3. That being said i now know its a mistake, but the girl selling it told me that each year she reported to the ministry the kms when registering the bike and what not and she has it registered at 130k since she clearly didnt know how to read it. So now when i try to sell the bike in a few years the ministry will have the kms listed at well over 130K, is this a big deal?

This needs to be upvoted more.
