Really enjoyed my Racer5 course. Those CBR125's are seriously fun. Everybody had a blast on them.
There are books available as well like twist of the wrist and others. That could serve as a good primer before venturing out onto a track for the first time. If money is a limitation, I would skip on the school and just go to a trackday. You won't get the same one-on-one time, but you will observe a lot and possible get some tidbits from the crew running the day and also from the other participants.
Why would you recommend skipping a school environment?
Ah yes, but I know that even within karting, depending on the type of sanctioned event it was (club level, regional, nationals, international), that there are different flagging systems throughout. The basics remain the same, red yellow green checkered, but I know there are a lot of variations on the other types of flags that can occur.Fair enough. He did state he was finance tight and that he was involved in karting at some level, so I assume he has familiarity with the basics of track safety and the flagging system, wouldn't you??
