Hey all...bend over....

I'm already thinking of using my fireplace this winter. With all the down trees from that storm there is a lifetime supply of material everywhere.
In many cases the wood fireplace will actually increase gas usage. It draws air from the house that goes out the flue which draws cold air into the rest of the house increasing the load on the furnace. Most of the heat energy it creates goes out the chimney. There are ways to offset or prevent this...

Oh wait.. you were saying it figuratively

I guess it's a blessing that pool heater finally gave up yesterday? I can spend $5k+ to get a heat pump and do an end run around carbon tax. A few years ago pool heater was $1-2/hr to run. I ran the numbers this year and it was just under $5. With the jump, it would obviously be more than that.
How big is your pool mine is 32 by 18 and a 50,000 BTU heat pump can keep it at 90° until Thanksgiving from May long weekend I paid $1,000 for the heat pump 5 years ago they are about 1600 to 1800 now for the same one

Interesting. My pool is smaller than that and I dont keep it that warn. All pool people I talked to say I should be at ~100k btu for a heat pump. Obviously real world experience shows otherwise. Post (or send me) make/model you installed please so I can take a look. If I can shave thousands off this problem, it will make me happy.

How quiet is it? The marketing people seem to run rampant in pool heat pump land. For instance, Pentair claims to be quiet and incorporate all sorts of things to keep noise down but then when asked for numbers they say 87 dBA at 10'. wtf, that is horrendous and probably bad data but that is what was given by a pentair rep. Aquacal SQ(which I don't think I can get in Canada) is 55 dBA @10'. Based on the pentair design, it's probably in the mid-60's. Moov is more than 10 dBA below aquacal (apparently, I can't find one in real life).

Here: "A decision from the Ontario Energy Board released Thursday approved Enbridge Gas Inc.’s June application for an increase"

Time to switch my home heating to be powered by roadkill and flyers that I find in my mailbox.
You can opt out of junk mail.….
Simply put a note in your mailbox for your postie stating you no longer wish to receive admail. If you have a community mailbox, just take a sticker, put it at the front of your slot and write “No Junk Mail”. It helps if you put the date on it as well so it will be readily apparent to them it’s new. They will then have to put a note in their route notebook, which gets reviewed by the supervisor and ends up with them receiving 1 less piece of junk mail (per item) for their route.

Worst thing you can do is stuff junkmail back in the outgoing slot. We have to clear the boxes and then separate the junk from real mail. If we miss something, it goes to the shredder.

In short, if your bill payment or important document gets shredded and you end up having to pay interest or have a utility shut off, it’s the fault of the people stuffing junkmail back into the outgoing slot.

Source - I’m a postie.

People voted Ford - people got what they've voted for. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And it's only a beginning.
Even bigger problem, I think, is that a mountain of folks just did not vote (link to article). I know faith in the gov is pretty low these days but still unfortunate.

ohhh don't you worry, electricity will catch up as it becomes the new oil
Wind is free and alternators are pretty cheap, when there's a will, there's a way. But I do get what you're getting at.

Aren’t we net exporters of electricity btw? Why does that go up too? Lots of bullcrap going around. Also since I’m generally quite grouchy today…. enjoy…

Peacefully sitting on a road is far removed from terrorism, but not everyone sees it that way. All the same, it seems silly to have to go to extreme measures in order to force some positive change.

DATA: But if that is so, Captain, why are their methods so often successful? I have been reviewing the history of armed rebellion and it appears that terrorism is an effective way to promote political change.

PICARD: Yes, it can be, but I have never subscribed to the theory that political power flows from the barrel of a gun.

DATA: Yet there are numerous examples where it was successful. The independence of the Mexican State from Spain, the Irish Unification of 2024, and the Kensey Rebellion.

PICARD: Yes, I am aware of them.

DATA: Then would it be accurate to say that terrorism is acceptable when all options for peaceful settlement have been foreclosed?

PICARD: Data, these are questions that mankind has been struggling with throughout history. Your confusion is only human.

Not sure if this will increase or lessen your grouch, but I wish you a pleasant weekend all the same!

They could peacefully sit in front of a diesel train too but they decided to sit in front of ordinary folk doing their ordinary day to day stuff on an ordinary day on an ordinary highway many of whom probably sympathized with them before they acted like *****. I don’t deny climate change is real but I also don’t deny how annoying righteous ******** can be. They also shouldn’t have been surprised at the reaction.

Did you see the old growth forest protestors in BC? For some reason, they thought setting up tall ladders in the middle of the road was a good idea. A fed up motorist broke one of their guy wire supports (with his hands, their construction ability sucks). A few minutes later, the poor sod at the top of the ladder rides it to the asphalt as it topples over. He hit hard. His feet were 8 or 10' up. I felt bad that he got hurt but roads are for driving, he shouldnt have been the assholensitting on the ladder there in the first place.

There‘s a time and a place for these things. The people just trying to get by shouldn't be your targets unless you just want to piss off as many people as possible. Go do a sit in at an oil company headquarters. Squat on the lawn of the CEO.

Trains run on private property... roads are public.
