Helping those in need: For views?

While I eat my breakfast I tend to want YouTube, as I don't want to "get into" anything. I now started watching YouTube shorts (like TikToks).
I won't name anyone or call out any channels, but I see a growing trend in people "helping" someone in need with a quick $1000.00 bucks or asking someone for a small token of help then "Boom" rewarding them with a $1000.00 bucks etc. Taking these at face value, I tend to be concerned that this does nothing to provide long term assistance to those that may need it, but provides an outlet for the "creator" to show "Look how nice I am" or "look at me, tell me I'm good" kind of thing in order to gain viewership and increase total views on YT?

I don't know if I am just a grump old man, has anyone else seen these and what are your thoughts?

How difficult would it be to pretend to be in need for the camera?

I'm more inclined to help someone in a low-paying job (fast food or daycare employee for instance) than I am to give a bunch to someone asking for money.

I used to know someone that had far more money than I did that would throw on some ragged clothes and go busk. He was making >$100/hour cash. He never said he was in need but definitely looked a lot more downtrodden when on his way to "work" than he did in normal life.

What's a Tik Tok and why should I care ?
Slightly off topic but I agree 100%, until I heard about the amount of information they receive from the users device.
If you have kids or grandkids on TikTok. I would care.

The "in need" people in many video's I've seen look to have fallen on hard times at least by the lack of hygiene and dental care. Then again who knows anymore what's real.
We're all too old to care about tiktok. Five seconds of fame taken to the extreme. Normally young girls with minimal clothing collecting followers.
You're thinking of Twitch..

You watching Soft White Underbelly?

I look at those YouTube channels the same way I see "Hoarders" or "My 800lb Sister" -- low budget reality, The producer gets a big buck for the content, the poor sobs get something for exposing their their misery.

I see zero philanthropy, it's just the entertainment business.

We had a friend who was on one of those "reality" renovation shows. They came in a couple of weeks before the shoot, and painted the room to be renovated this hideous purple.

Needless to say when they came back for the shoot, they panned the wall colour and asked her how she could have painted it that hideous shade.

Did the reno, and put in many "designer" accents, which weren't included in the deal. Basically, they were trying to get their new designer label off the ground, by selling to suckers that appeared on the show.

In the end, she ended up paying someone else to have most of the renovation put back the way it was, and didn't buy the thousands of dollars in accents.

In a subway station years ago, I had a guy ask me for any spare change.
I quickly pointed out that he was dressed better than me and maybe he should be giving me some spare change.
I'm more of a .....

I used to get to know some of the regulars, and knew that they were sleeping on the street or in shelters.
There were also people like the shakey lady. I heard that when she was exposed, she moved to Montreal for a few years.

My dad claims that his union used to hire the homeless to picket for them.

Coincidence that Mark was on Joe Rogan today, he has tried many many times to help. One of the girls he set up with an apartment and was sending money to every month for her children, who told him she was sober and done with her boyfriend, was giving the gang member boyfriend all of the money Mark was sending her.

Maybe ive just become a jaded old man but I don’t believe anything I see on YouTube or any other social media posted for likes. I just appear it’s all staged for the clicks and nothing else.

Kids are currently into Vlad and Nicky … holy crap that family makes bank….off playing with toys!

Wtf I’m in the wrong business.

The problem is complex and made worse by us not being able to force people into treatment.

Money is a tool. If a person doesn't know how to use a table saw why give him one? Teach him first.

elderly fella living in his car at the Smiths Falls Tim Hortons so he can be close to his wife who’s been recovering for months in the hospital. Savings used up after living in nearby hotel so now he’s staying in his car. Now there’s someone I’m happy to help.

Youtube feeds you what you want, reinforcing your ingrained thoughts.

If they did otherwise they'd lose followers. Few people want their opions changed.
Somewhat, they have algothims in place to feed you more content which you might be interested in, and spend more time on the site. The content itself is another issue which gets you sucked in, in the first place. What the OP describes is just another ploy to keep you engaged wrapped around a nice intention. Just like how the gov is going to fix the enviroment by collecting more taxes.... right?

It’s all there to make you feel good…with zero effort expanded.

As @Hardwrkr13 stated…there are real people that need help. They’re not on YOUTUBE.
