help with arai helmets

hey guys, so after a crash today at mosport i managed to ruin my shark cf helmet. so im after an arai now. shoei doesnt fit me correctly, arai does but im curious about the sizing of them.the large is a bit snug but the xl feels a bit too loose. id imagine this thing would break in and fit better, but i wear an xl shark but use large cheek pads. i figured out that would work better after breaking in the xl shark and having it get a little loose. so first question, does the large and xl arai use the same shell size? and also which one should i look at buying? im gonna start racing in soar next year and probably keep street riding to a minimum like i have been this year. also id like to try to keep it at or under $800. so what are my options and what do you guys suggest?

I have an RX-Q and i love it. Along with the Corsair there's 5 different shell sizes (only m and l share). Cannot speak for the other models. I do wear a Medium AGV Grid so sizes between models mean nothing.
For track i would think the Corsair is the popular choice....and considering the RX-Q is marketed as "the corsair for the street" might be your second option.

good to know thanks man, maybe ill grab an xl and get large pads for it. i found the large was a little tight going over my head and over my face but it fits. i might have to go and try an xl again now before i order one.
ill look in to both, i think the rxq just has a different vent configuration doesnt it? more for street riding

Go try it on then order one? As in order it from the store that you tried the helmet on in?

ive tried them on, the large is a bit snug but i know that helmets break in, the xl is a bit of the broken in side, but if the large and med has the same size shell then i may as well go with an xl and toss in some large pads.

I'd rather opt for a little snug vs a little loose. You can always buy larger pads and vise versa like you mentioned. Unless it actually hurts you then the large is probably correct.

thats what im thinking too. im gonna go try on an rx-q this week. did a couple hours worth of google reading on them and they seem pretty damn good and a nice mutli use helmet vs the corsair that seems more like a track only, gotta wear ear plugs kind of helmet. im jsut trying to remember if it was an arai large or a bell large that i tried on that had the breathe guard thing touching my nose

Since you know the size and the Shark obviously saved your noggin why don't you just order another one up from STG? That's what I do now with my helmets and I save a bomb on them, even with shipping and taxes.

id love to get another rsi carbon fiber one like i had ruined, i looked for one and couldnt find it, stg only sells a new line of sharks that i wouldnt mind getting, but i found my rsi fit me great and when i tried an rsr2 i believe it was, it didnt fit as well as the rsi. i guess the deciding factor would be what kind of deal i can snag on an arai vs what the new sharks cost through stg. plus the exchange rate has taken a bit of a crap lately, think we're floating around 1.13 now so you gotta factor that in and then tax at the border. im heading up to sturgess this week to try on some arai's, they used to carry shark so maybe they have the new line now.

that new shark carbon race r pro helmet is nice, **** now im torn with what to get

Fair enough. I have an RSi and an RSR2 both in M and they fit me pretty much the same. Also have two evolines. Love Shark stuff and the prices from STG, especially on close out gear is pretty good. Customer service is above and beyond too.

For what its worth i bought a arai corsair v a couple years ago. I got a xl and it fit pretty snug, after 1 season the padding became pretty loose, but for around 80 bucks you can get replacement padding same or different thickness

Also the helmet kicks ***, ventilation like nothing ive ever experienced, i use it for both street and track and love it

How well does it block out wind noise and other such road noise?

With all the vents open its like sticking your head out a car window at 100km/h :lmao: but you'll be as cool as a cucumber

Not the quietest helmet out there but its a trade off for the ventilation. I wear earplugs both on street and track so i couldn't care less...

GP bikes also carries shark and has the Race R pro in stock as well as good deals on corsair Vs. You should go try it on them and order it from across the border to help support local bike shops.

lol ive talked to two local bike shops already about a price on arai helmets and just asked guys from those same two shops if they are able to get me a shark helmet. i think ill grab another shark, i did some reading about the new line and it seems pretty damn good. ill give gp bikes a shout if the first two places cant get them and see if i can get out there and grab one

gp bikes isnt showing the race r pro on their website. ill give them a call today when they open and see what i can figure out

Haha **** I know. Especially next year when I start racing in soar. Maybe I'll wrap the helmet in bubble wrap. I called gp bikes just after 9 this morning and again an hour ago, acting to hear back on a price and availability of the helmet I want. Gotta order one today I'm gonna try to make it to tmp on the 13th
