You said you ruled out dirt bikes, but does that include supermoto and supermoto-styled sport bikes? If you're not doing long distance touring, they're guaranteed fun without needing to go fast. The DRZ-400SM is at one end of the spectrum, and the Ducati Hypermotard at the other.

I think I am going to move into a Street triple, but one of the older models, the 675 R. Just because it's a bit cheaper and from what I understand, the newer model triple may be a bit too much of a jump from the R3.

Very close contender, but I would stick to the 700 and from what I hear, the XSR and MT07, despite being near excellent, do have some suspension complaints when it comes to the twisty's.

Just check the insurance, the streeties are great bikes, but insurance companies dont like them
