Help me choose a 2nd bike...

I would not be so worried about the weight. When I started riding, I went from a 400cc Yamaha Maxim to a Goldwing 1100. Yes it was intimidating and big, but take your time, move at your own pace and you can ride anything. Any new bike is going to feel different, they all do, so you will need to adjust no matter what you switch to.

I find my FZ6 is a good all-rounder. AND it gets over 60MPG

Honda NC700 X or S

thats right..its an F

Get the static weight numbers out of your head. 400+ lbs is normal for sportbikes, everybody gets along fine with that weight and so will you.

Ninja is a parallel twin, SV is a v-twin, and FZ is inline 4... three very different character bikes. You should ride them all before plopping your money down. Personally I hate parallel twins so I'd go FZ or SV. The Yamaha makes quite a bit more power up top than the other two, but it also delivers it in a smoother more linear manner with taller gearing, so around town it doesn't necessarily feel as fast.

i have owned v twin and inline four.
what does the paralel twin behave like?

I'm going to have to throw my biased opinion in the mix. I have a 01 YZF600R sport touring as they say. More of an upright position and more forgiving than an R6. It is my first and yes I am a mostly new rider, but its not half the crazyness that I was expecting reading all the " you should be starting on x bike" threads.

Fwiw. I have a TL1000R just waiting for me untill I put a couple seasons of expierence behind me.

My .02$

I've heard FZR400's are uncomfortable, peaky, barely-streetable torture racks...

...which is why I want one!

I think that for the OP, the SV650 is the tailor-made bike.

FWIW, I'm 6'2" and in my 3rd yr of riding. I started out with a Bandit 600 and recently upgraded to a VFR800. Both are hefty bikes but I learned fine with the Bandit 600. The SV650 is ~80 lbs lighter than either bike so you'll be fine... indeed, towards the end, there wasn't much for chicken strips on my heavy Bandit! If light weight and sporty is what you want, I'd also suggest an F4i.

True...the seat on an FZR is a torture device.

But their ability to stop and turn by mere mental telepathy is amazing.

I wouldn't want to have to contend with day to day grind on any sportbike though.

I would never dream of calling an SV650 heavy. See if you can figure out a way to get some seat time on one, I think your concerns are misplaced.

Pre Vtec VFR 800/750. Ez win.

x2. Can't get a more all rounder, street friendly, comfortable bike then those model VFRs. (1990-2000)

The V4 engine makes power at every rev, and the Gear Driven Cams, single sided swing arm, and bullet proof engine make it that much sweeter.

If the VFR's are too heavy, it looks like the new Honda NC700 will be right up your alley.

Yep, I can vouch for that! I love mine.

Lots of torque, pretty good handling, comfortable, makes awesome noises, a bit heavy but carries it low... it checks all the boxes.
