Helmet Replacement Discounts?

Hello all,

Just a questions, cause I can't seem to find the information online and wondered if anyone had some experience with this. I know that with BELL bicycle helmets, they have a program if you crash in it they will subsidize a replacement helmet if you return the crashed one. They did this so they could research how well it held up in a crash I think (you had to write a letter explaining what happened/any injuries I believe).

Anyone know if there are similar programs for motorcycle helmets? My roommate was wearing my ICON helmet (I personally upgraded to a SHOEI recently) and he took a spill. I'm going to try contacting ICON to see if they want it for any research purposes regardless since I cant use it for guests now. Thought I'd see if anyone here had an experience with that?

Also, after spending the afternoon with him at the hospital (he'll be OK thankfully) and looking at the damage... I'll never not wear a full face helmet. He might not be pretty, but at least he still has a face!

Alternatively, does anyone know anywhere that asks for crashed helmets to do research on them? If so let me know!

Fire departments will take them for training.

If he puts the accident through insurance he can claim the helmet and get a new one.

The deal with the bicycle helmets is an interesting idea and I am surprised there aren't more companies doing that.
The biggest test bed is the general public's ability to create situations that are unique. This could potentially be a great amount of data for them to use and possibly make helmets that are even safer than the ones we have today.

If you do get information on which companies take their helmets back for examination, please share!
I'd be willing to send in my crashed helmet if they paid shipping. It'd be useless to me anyways after crashing it.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, they can gain a lot of information this way. I remember being pretty impressed BELL did this for their bicycle helmets. I've contacted ICON to see what they say, and might out of own interest contact a few other places.
