Helmet cheek pad replacements.

I bought GMAX 68s helmet. The helmet is the same size as my other helmet, which fit well. The pads are squishing my face so badly, it feels like there's no blood getting to my head!

Where can I find replacement pads for this helmet, so that it's not as tight as it is?

Oh man, I can't remember it now. It was an e-purchase from a lid-selling store somewhere in the states. I got it last year, keeping it for this season. Sorry it's not much help.
 
google... online stores are probably your best bet. Try calling around, some stores may be able to order them in.
 
Don't all helmets fit differently? Maybe a size up would have helped?
 
I think a size up would not have provided the snug I needed. The problem being the cheekpads are 35mm. The larger size cheek pads then narrow down to 25mm, and 20mm. The shell for this model, I believe, is the same size, it's just the pads that are altered. Anyhow, thanks for the input. If I can't find it myself, I'll order it off of the internets.

can you shave the foam down a bit? The cheek liners on all my helmets are removable, so you can get to the foam.

That's actually not a bad idea at all. Assuming that I can remove them and get to the foam without having to damage the liner. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out. What did you use to shave it in a consistant manner?

I must confess I've never tried, but I assume a razor blade could do the trick.
 
Have you tried just taking them out of the helmet, soaking them down in some water and letting them compress naturally? They will compress from wear, but you could quicken the process. Do this, wear it around the house for a while, see if that helps.
 
The water-to-compress it seems like a feasible idea as well. I actually had weights sitting on the padding for sometime, and it didn't do anything to compress it. I'm going to try shaving it, watering it down, and THEN putting weights atop it. Brilliant.
 
I'm going to recommend soaking them down and wearing it before you start cutting any of the foam out. You want the padding to conform to your facial contours first and foremost. If they end up too compressed from soaking and cutting, then the effectiveness of the helmet drops. Your face should be squished somewhat in a properly fitted helmet anyway.

My X-Twelve actually gave me headaches before it finally conformed to my head, and the cheekpads were so tight it affected my ability to close my mouth. Now it's perfect.
