Guys,
I am thinking about getting a helmet camera (more specific: GoPro HD2)

Does anyone have experience with these cams? Which helmet camera would you recommend? GoPro, Replay XD, Contour, Drift? Has anyone tried more than one of them?

thnx for sharing...

let me know...

Your best bet is to jump onto YouTube and check out the comparisons. There are a ton of videos on there shot with these cameras and some good comparisons too.

They each have their pros and cons. Pick one.

I had the original Hero and now have the Hero2 (both the motorsports edition) and highly recommend it!

The GoPro is a nice helmet cam, my only complaint about them is that they stand out too much. So it really depends on your preferences.

Here are my experiences,

-GoPro (The previous one, not the 2) has great quality, but stands out
-Contour, good quality as well but worst than GoPro, sleek form, does not stand out all that much. (Cheaper $$$ too)

I love my GoPro HD Hero 2. I prefer to mount it on the bike rather than the helmet though. I find the fov from the helmet is just too high up.

plenty of good reviews for GoPro HD.
myself, i like the look of the replay HD much better. small, compact and very good quality in youtube vids. a member here also did a detailed review on it.
i dont have either one of these though..

Like C-Note said.. this topic has been beaten to death here and on other websites. Go to this thing called "Google.com" and type in what you would like to search on. If you cant use the search here, on google type " gtamotorcycle gopro comparision" and even google will find some results for you.

Mount it on the SIDE of the helmet and it works well (under 150km ;) Field of view looks great. Lots of video online. In the city its annoying as too many head checks are going to happen, but open road or track its good.

Love my GoPro HD Hero2. The only negative is that the battery life is around 1.5 hours. Just bought another one with extra charger for like $15 shipped off ebay. The permanent mounts are great, it's amazing how the camera stays put at high speed and sudden acceleration. Just using one curved mount on top of my helmet for now. Still got to 'experiment' with all other mounts.

Can't this thing be wired to the bike battery somehow so it can record for 5 hours straight? If no then I rather use my normal Samsung family camcorder with a female DC socket wired to my bike and can record just as stunning HD video for 8 hours.

There is a battery pack for the GoPro, it just makes it a bit more bulkier because of the extra battery attached at the back. Looks the same from the back and front, just thicker from the side. Makes the perfect combo with a 32GB SD Card.

Yes but the charging port is blocked by the case, could probably just drill a hole though.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this wouldn't fit into the transparent waterproof case, which mounts to the actual mount on the bike/camera? I'd rather swap the battery on one of my stops I think. Did a few runs with 16GB card, and the battery died before the card got filled (12GB if I remember correctly at 720p/60fps). So now I'll have two batteries and a 32GB card. Just got a Class 10 32GB Duracell for $26 on sale at Future Shop. May not be as reliable as my 16GB Sandisk Extreme, but don't really care there.

The battery pack comes with a more roomy case/back plate thingy.

you can get the "Skeleton housing" which has all the ports exposed. Would allow charging while shooting, as well as external mic but would sacrifice the water resistance of the waterproof housing.

I'll give that a try on the side. I'm always experimenting with places to mount it. Worst place I tried so far was mounting it on the front turn signal stalk. Way too much wobble.

And, GoPro cameras are TOUGH. I have lots of videos of them taking direct hits from dirt bikes, the ground etc and only once has it ever "skipped"

I'm going to make a mount for mine, using a cheap clamp from the dollar store and some hardware so it will mount almost directly in front of the mouth piece of my shark helmet.
Not sure when it will happen, since I have to fix the mx bike from the carnage on the weekend (which I do have on the gopro and will post up once I figure out how to bleep out my swearing on movie maker)

Do you mean that using the waterproof housing you reduce the windnoise? Or is the skeleton house/waterproof housing not the same?
