Helmet Breaking In Strategies

Are you buying the right shaped helmet? People generally fit into one of three head shapes: long oval, intermediate oval, and round oval. If you're trying to squeeze your long oval head into a round oval helmet it's just not going to work. Helmet has to be tight, but if it's painful to wear its the wrong shape or size.

Don't buy it. Any discomfort at all means it doesn't fit and/or its cheap.

Just like a pair of shoes, most wil break down/in to a certain degree. They are mass produced and should eventually mold a hit to your body.

If it pinches/pains then think about where and why. My big eared (or big haired) friends sometimes can fix this, sometimes not depending on the issue.

I have chipmunk cheeks, every single new helmet I have ever owned will need some amount of break in . The pads will always cause my cheeks to push in (uncomfortable after 10 mins), thus pushing up my cheek into my sight line. 10 more mins and I get a headache from the strain.

Usually about 6X of this cycle they fit beautifully (Arai no matter what profile will not fit my head not even mentioning my facial issue).

Don't ever change your demeanor. We love ya.

After maybe 3 or 4k's of riding with my new lid I still can't chew gum because the cheeks pads push my cheeks between my teeth.

They're all made like that these days. Clamp tight to stop movement (safety you know). I was thinking of getting a turnbuckle and leaving it in the helmet pushing the sides apart but thought the better of it. Will suffer in silence.
