Heater for garage

None that is what makes it unheated if I had a heater it would be a heated garage. I would use one of these if I wanted a heated garage.

Any heater you use in your garage should be designed for that use and installed correctly. Typically that means ceiling mounted. If you mount it on the floor your garage may go boom.

What kind of heaters are you guys using in your unheated garages?

First off, my garage is insulated R2000. Also had an insulated Garaga roll up door installed. I did'nt put any windows in during the build (for several reasons).
I use an electric (110V) micro furnace that has an 'anti-freeze' setting - keeps mine at a minimum +8C all winter. Nothing noticeable on my hydro bill either.

I use a MR Heater - I put the tank in a milk crate with wheels on the bottom so I can roll it around. I also took an old floor fan, removed the base and attached it to the milk crate.

Turn on the heat...raise the fan to as high as you can and put the fan on low and you get room temperature even heat in no time!

A couple options ..

1. Radiant heater at Princess auto for around $79. Does appox 320 sq feet ..
2. I use a kerosene heater which warms up my garage to temps where i can work out in the garage in my t shirt.
3. When its really cold, i throw on my small electric heater as well ..

Garage is toasty warm ..

I have been using this heater for 2 years now. It is set at 20C all the time. Will warm my small garage easily to 30 plus. Hard wired to a dedicated 240v circuit. It is very quiet so I can watch TV, work on the bikes or drink a beer with friends without the roar of a heater.

I was looking to install this one in my double garage... I just finished insulating the walls, still have to insulate the ceiling though.

So you keep that thing on all winter? How's the electricity bill? Is your garage insulated all around? Will this heater bring the temp up to 20 in the dead of winter?

I was going to wire up a 1500W baseboard heater, but I wouldn't be able to move it around, so I got this one, Axium Low Profile Baseboard Heater: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/3/HouseHome/1/HeatingAirConditioning/PortableBaseboardHeaters/PRD~0435854P/Axium+Low+Profile+Baseboard+Heater.jsp?locale=en

Probably not going to do much on the super cold days though, so might get a kerosene/propane heater as well.

The baseboard heater would struggle to bring the temperature up in the midst of winter. You'll definitely need to supplement with a kerosene or propane heater to get the temps into the 10+ range, then have the baseboard heater(s) maintain.

No, I only run it when I'm in the garage. It would be to expensive to run that all winter since my garage isn't insulated and it's a but risky as well.

What do you say about this review from cantire website?
"I installed it in my 600 sq ft garage( recommended for 500 sq ft) and it will maintain inside temp at about 10 degrees when it's around 0 degrees out. I use a torpedo heater to get temp to 10 as this heater will not do it. Garage is uninsulated but fairly well sealed and it is 13 feet to the rafters."
