I am selling my 1984 vt 500 shadow and it has quite a bad tick to it. I was told it was a cam chain tensioner. The buyer is interested in it only if he can find the part. I called ready honda and they said that the cam chain tensioner was discontinued!!! Does anyone know where I could locate this part. The bike is really starting to **** me off!

Try the salvage yards, they might have one in decent condition or know a similar part that would fit. You could also try Old Bike Barn (not sure of their internet address but googling should pull it up) sometimes just googling the part will pull up an ebay or simliar source for it.

Good luck.

Does Zdeno have a lot of old bikes? I used to get stuff for my mid-70's Honda a Ontario Cycle Salvage down on kingston road. I'd also give Ted (rosey toe's) a call.....

I gave Ted a call he said I would have to get them used as they dont sell them anymore but he said he can adjust them if I bring the bike by. Only problem is is the bike is about 5 hours away in Petawawa. I guess I am going to have to try and fix it up there or haul it all the way back here, fix it then sell it down here. This bike was a curse since the day I bought it.

Check NCK. Don't know much about them but stumbled across their website as they were listing a bike for sale on Kijiji. Needless to say after I realized they were a salvage shop I realized why the bike was so cheap.

Should have messaged me a few days ago I just came down from pet on vacation and had room in my truck for it. If you do take it to be fixed in pet do not go to banville yamaha for anything ever. They try to rip me off everytime I go in there for more than oil.

Just so you know VT500s were known for overly loud tick tick noise. Most people complaining about it found nothing wrong the chain ... that doesn't mean that yours is OK. Just saying before throw a definitive verdict against the bike.
