That’s because you’re from here. Typically we don’t see our own home area as a tourist destination.

CN Tower, Ripleys, museums, Eaton Centre, Kensington, St Lawrence, Islands, Niagara, Queen St, and a host of other spots are still bringing in tourists.

To me…Niagara Falls is just some water falling over an edge…to visitors it’s a wonderful destination.

It all comes down to what you’re used to.

I’ve lived or travelled most corners of the world. There is a stark difference between places I would visit and where I would live.

Toronto still has many things going for it that many non NA cities do not. Don’t forget we’re also the 4th largest city in NA last I checked.

Toronto: Historic site = Europe: New subdivision.

Yeah I know it's hard or unfair to compare them historically. Maybe culturally as well, the people over there do make their cities come alive.

"If you love the smell of pee, Visit Toronto." This has always been my statement when people ask if it worth visiting.
But it's expending quickly to other cities in the GTA.

That smell has been covered up by weed smokers. Literally all we could smell walking around with my friends visiting.

There's falls along the entire escarpment, but there's a cluster of them in the "crook" in the escarpment - Stony Creek, Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown. Depending on your definition of a waterfall, there's 90-95 of them just in that 10 mile radius.

My favourite is Tews Falls which is about the same height as Niagara but only a few feet wide most of the year. I used to go there when it was privately owned byJex Tew. He allowed people to look at their own risk as there were no railings. At some point someone must have mentioned liabilites and the property is now in the hands o a conservation authority.

We are in a crisis. Housing either buying or renting is getting out of reach for far too many. Inflation exceeding raises exacerbates the problem. Food price are up. Medical service are down. Expectations are up either by parents coddling their precious offspring or advertisers pumping up egos. Governments play sides against each other to win votes.

Some people give up and placidly live under bridges or in parks. Others angrily make do.

Poor underprivileged people are the easiest to radicalize. The only thing the government has done is to legalize marijuana so it can take a bit of the sting out of having to live under a bridge. Russia uses cheap vodka for the same purpose. Someone told me if you want to impress a Russian chick just show up sober.

We've played our hands poorly and the lack of critical thinking is making it easier to radicalize people. Can that be changed?

What would happen if people were given evaluation forms to fill out.

Question 1) What do you deserve in life?

They answer: BMWs, house, travel, bling,

Question 2) Why do you deserve the BMWs, house, travel, bling?

They answer: Because I'm special

Question 3) Using facts not opinions, why are you special? What your mother told you isn't a fact.

Bottom line: If you aren't a "10" don't expect "10" stuff. Few of us are 10s.

How many people would vote for for a candidate that told the truth?

The Liberals promised lower housing prices in at least two of their campaigns and did nothing at all, nor are they likely to, since lowering housing prices would piss off their voters. Ford is in deep with construction moguls and wants to help them build new housing....... on the greenbelt.

Peter Mansbridge does a show on XM called The Bridge. A few days ago the subject of discussion was how politicians use lies.

Sadly it wasn't eye opening that they lie so much, what was startling is how political parties use Canadas top polling and market research companies to test lies ahead of time.

The only way I can see lower house prices being affected by the government is for them to implement price controls or communism. That or put rebates or grants on a different taxpayers tab. The government doesn't have any coin of their own.

A review of our capital gains system is overdue. You get a one time deal. Keep the existing system or go to the US one where you claim your mortgage interest as a deduction on an investment. No switching back and forth as economies dictate. Then you pay cap gain upon the sale. Oh but I want it both ways....

How about the government leases lots? The buyer owns the home and rents the land killing his investment potential but living in a house instead of renting. Oh but I want it both ways.....

I built the platform and stair case at tews falls, many years ago. In february ice covered with no safety harness, as they were not required yet.

Wow!

We were down the Niagara way yesterday and stopped at a McD's for a snack near Virgil. Since we had our daughter's pup with us we ate in the car with the windows down, enjoying the weather.

A young guy started smoking a cigarette (Not pot) a car and a half away from us. We're both non smokers but the smell wasn't very noticeable.

Then the guy looks at us and says "Oh, sorry I didn't see you sitting there and here I am smoking." and he moved further away.

Awesome.

People are easy to lie to because they don't want to hear the truth. Incarceration is bad because they lock criminals up with other criminals that tell each other they're not that bad.

While you are probably correct in a criminal sense, it may be possible for TTC to trespass that moron so they are never able to step foot on TTC property or vehicles for the rest of their life. If they violated that order they would be risking a $10,000 fine every time.

I've seen people taking a leak in the streets in various cities in Spain, high denstity populated areas, daytime. When there is plenty of places open to access a bathroom.

It would be nice but firstly the cost would be prohibitive for a one time offense. Secondly, in this age of no one using critical thought, others don't think it's going to happen to them if they act up.

A non criminal analogy: A driver stops at a convenience store once every day to buy smokes or something but there is no legal street parking and a $30 fine for doing so. Next to the store is a flat rate parking lot at $10 a shot. Parking enforcement is sporadic and he gets a ticket a month. The economics are $360 a year in tickets or $3650 a year in flat rate parking.

To stop the driver from breaking the law, either the fine has to go up by a factor of ten or the enforcement has to go up by a similar factor, making the legal parking lot more attractive.

People drive drunk because they think they won't get caught, and many won't.

Would anyone try robbing a bank if there was a hidden sniper in every bank, licensed to kill.

Would life be better if we lived in a Gestapo environment and what's a happy compromise?

Why is it cost prohibitive? It's literally a note in a police workbook with an associated case number. They do it many times a day (mainly to keep addicts out of stores). There are a surprising number of people that are prohibited from entering every LCBO store.
