Has commuting on your bike, reduced your passion for riding?

Everyone has their own idea of commuting, riding and even passion. My first year riding I rode to work more than I drove. That has never changed. When I ride i'm happy to be on two wheels, period. When I was riding to work I MADE it fun. :) I was never late for work on the bike though, that's for sure. :D (back then was still living at home with Mommy so mostly highway riding - i'll say no more)

I stopped riding to work a few years ago not because of a lack of passion or anything like that - it was actually co-workers. Some ****tards would try to sit on my bike while still wearing their smocks and boots (I work in a machine shop) and a few times I came out to find metal chips/shavings on the bike or the seat scratched. It didn't happen often, but the lack of respect ****** me off enough that I didn't ride to work anymore.

Now that i'm on a bike again all the guys keep asking where my bike is and when I tell them that their shocked. I guess it's easy for some of the lazy fat farts to get over a cruiser, but not over my sport bike. I'm tempted to ride in to work again because I LOVED riding to work, but it's not sure it's worth the consequence.

*shrug* Whatever. I'm happy to have a bike again and like I said before ... i'm just happier on two wheels.

You could keep a cheap bike cover at work or in your backpack as a deterrent unless your co-workers are really that disrespectful.

It can become boring, especially if your job is a drag. Everytime you get on your bike you're basically reminded of going to work. Get a new bike and dont commute all the time with it. Or stop communting with the bike you have now. Eventually if u stop commuting with ur bike that you have now, you will find the joy in it again.

lol I can understand this feeling. I try to see it the other way, where riding is to work is the highlight of my day and gives me an opportunity to relieve some stress during lunch. Unfortunately, other drivers make it hard to enjoy being on the road during weekdays. Only reason I ride into work now is to save on parking.

A track near the GTA would reduce a lot of HTA172 infractions and make a lot of SS riders smile again. A win-win :)

Yea exactly. Imo riding is a hobby. When you ride everyday to work for whatever reason then it becomes habitual and not in good way because its a constant fight or 'race' to get to work. Especially during rush hour haha. Survival of the fittest for sure :)

A lot of different perspectives, very interesting, gives me lots to consider.

There's definitely something to this hobby idea. When I think about it, anecdotally speaking, those in the far north that travel by snowmobile don't go for trail rides on a regular basis, fishermen don't go for boat rides, airline pilots don't do a lot of pleasure flying. Maybe commuting just tips the balance in favour of utility rather than fun hobby... at least for some anyway.

Yes, I agree with the OP.... (just need to find different routes though) "Driving" down/up the DVP during rush hour is brutal - IMHO

Probably been said already, for me using my motorcycle to commute to work has taken all the enjoyment out of driving my cars!

Not disagreeing, but given that you have to do the commute, is it not good to do it the most enjoyable way?

While commuting may take some of the joy out the hobby, the riding injects a little joy in the commute.

Since I had my last bike stolen at my condo I now store my bike off site. Ever day I go to pick my bike with with my car and back to storage after work. This with the combination of city traffic and cold weather my passion for riding is slowly dwindling. That said I loveit so much that I will continue to do this until I need to :)

Motorcycle has been a "freeing" experience for me. I take a stroll around town on weekends and evenings to unwind and escape. This is what it does for me. So because of that, I do not ride when it is a daily commute or let it associate with some sort of chore. I do ride to see my friends though which makes it very nice in the summer. I don't even like to wear a backpack with stuff in it while on the bike ... I try to be as "free" as possible.
