Harley's

If it's not carrying the typical HD premium price compared to the competition, well, we shall see.

Do the adventure bike guys really buy based on brand image though versus sheer functionality and proven reliability?

Development suspended until further notice. And no, it won't be 'affordable' for anyone but well heeled professionals and business owners. You'll be looking at $40g CDN fully loaded. If you can't afford that, Harley's not interested in you. Go buy a Kawasaki.

Spoken like a true Harley guy!

So, these will end up being pavement princesses for the plaid wearing “lumberjacks” (who couldn’t change a tire if their life depended on it) crowd while the Kawasaki’s and such are actually riding in the dirt doing actual adventure stuff.

Cool. Cool.

That look like it had world beating ugliness if they can put in a big vtwin with 80 hp and make it weight 800lbs they will have a winner.

They have to be the most clever piece of marketing for stupid people in decades. Started with the Paris-Dakar racer bikes, then everyone had to have one, then they got bigger, and bigger, and heavier and heavier. There's several YT vids of idiots traversing back trails, and the biggest threat to them is not the trail itself, but the risk of the 600-800lb heavily-laden bike falling over (sometimes on top of them). Takes them half an hour to get it back up, from then on they stick to the bumpy dirt roads, which is about all they're good for.

I don't really like them off road for the reasons you mentioned, but for devouring pavement miles where the road condition is crap, they are hard to beat.

one of my bikes is a 17 versys 1000, it is badged as a adv touring, i would not want to take down a single trail. but dirt roads and lots of pavement it eats it up really well and

this was primarily the reason i switched gears from the ADV segment.

am i going to throw a 25 grand bike down a muddy road? Nope!

Lots on brand image. If they bought on functionality and dependability it would be a world of Tenere, African Twins and Vstrom.

BMWs, Ducs and KTMs are brand image IMHO.

so 10K more than the bike that invented/leads the segment?

they will sell a total of zero of those @ 40K

will do well to get anything over 20 for them

Brand image, dealer experience/preference, outright performance, appearance & personal preference and/or price & availability are all valid reasons to buy whatever you want, including the ugliest Harley Davidson ever conceived. Honestly, was it designed by a blind guy?

Uh oh here we go again, another Harley bashing thread. Can we once and a while have a Honda bashing thread... gesssh.

To the OP - you and I have vastly different views on what "cool" looks like. The front looks like an old Massey Ferguson Ski Whiz snowmobile
