AMF tried to break the union. In 1974 the shop I worked at had to disassemble and rebuild every Sportster that came in new. The oil pumps had been assembled incorrectly at factory in an act of union disobedience. At that time H-Ds had a 3 month (I think ?) parts-only warranty. Needless to say, there were a lot of unhappy customers.

I thought Ronald Raygun saved HD when he started taxing 750's. Remember there were no 600cc sportbikes (or any 600cc bikes) before then.
