DETROIT (AP) -- Harley-Davidson is recalling 66,421 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles from the 2014 model year because their front wheels can lock up without warning.
Motorcycles with anti-lock brakes built between July 1, 2013, and May 7, 2014, are included in the recall.
Harley-Davidson Inc. says the front brake line can get pinched between the fuel tank and the frame. That could cause front brake fluid pressure to increase, increasing the risk that the front wheel could lock up while riding.
The company knows of five crashes and two minor injuries related to the defect, which it discovered last fall through warranty claims.
Harley-Davidson will notify owners later this month. Dealers will replace the brake lines for free and attach straps to hold them in place.

I'm shocked they didn't pull the bikes off the road till fixed. Can you imagine your relying on your ABS and you wheel locks up .

Ouch. That's inexcusable, and a major lawsuit waiting to happen.
I wonder if that number (66,421) is the number of bikes already sold or the number manufactured, many still sitting in dealerships.

We have one of the affected models,no notice yet, that just went through 1500km service. Consider that BMW issued a do not ride order for 8000 units regarding a component that has yet to fail, worldwide. Also consider BMW offered to repurchase or gave discounts or gave loaners to their customers of the R1200RT. The MOCO is certainly getting out of this on the cheap. When you look at the whooping GM's taking over missed handled recalls you'd think quick action would be the order of the day. Oh well,I guess we could park our new H-D's for the summer till they work it out.

"Harley-Davidson will notify owners later this month"

How very gracious of them. They should do something NOW. Not later this month. SSshhheeeeesssshhhh.

Looks like HD prices are going to drop!!!

Not an issue, Hardley Movinson riders don't use front brakes.

Not the first time they have had major recalls for major failures, at one point, they had to recall almost every Buell made for frame failures.

Serves people right for buying stuff made by companies that are run by accountants, with out-dated engineering.

This will not affect sales, and may help. Since the GM scandal with the defective ignitions and as many as 30 dead, sales went UP.

Front brake line can be pinched between the frame and the tank. I think this would be easy for a rider to pre-ride check, now that they know what to look for.

I agree though, lawsuits are coming and they should have been (and be) more pro-active given this is a safety item.
