Hard Cases Honda Shadow

Just wondering if anyone has any experiences with hard cases for a 1999 Honda Shadow? I've just bought my first cruiser which came with leather saddle bags. This is super, but I'm looking for something I can use for some longer riding and that might be a bit more durable and water-proof? There seems to be a good selection out there, just wondering on your thoughts!

Myself and the previous owner of my 2000 shadow put 100,000km on a set of soft bags.
They generally kept the water out but if was doing a serious trip I would wrap everything in watertight bags or garbage bags.

The cost for hard bags are very expensive. I personally could not justify $1000 on hard bags and mounting when the soft bags did everything I needed.

Don't get me wrong. I love how clean and sleek hard bags look. If I had a VTX1300 or 1800 I would have seriously thought of putting hard bags on them.

Hard bags bought new are very expensive. They are lockable and more waterproof than soft bags. Sometimes you can find hard bags used, but may have some damage from a crash or tipover. I have a pair of used Krauser bags from a BMW. They are not new looking but work well, and are quickly detatchable. You may need to put a rear rack on your Shadow.

For new panniers check out Tsukayu. They are cheaper but the plastic is not thick.
