Handicap permits

And each municipality or city has it's own rules on how the permit can be used....for example, Mississauga, it only gives you the right to park in a designated handicapped spot, does not allow you free parking anywhere else, overnight parking, and so on......just in designated handicapped parking spots....

just like Mississauga does not have a by-law that residents must shovel the snow from the sidewalks.....it's appreciated but not mandatory....or a law....

A person can need the sticker and still look healthy. Do we have the right to challenge them?

no, we do not, it's our duty to go about our daily business and not get up in each other's grill over nothing

and while I agree with your thinking, healthy and disabled are not opposites, it is very possible to be both

if you think there is an infraction, call Parking Enforcement, let them deal with it.....

this is one of the requirements for eligibiliity

suffers from lung disease to such an extent that his or her forced expiratory volume in one second is less than one litre,

but can you tell just by looking at a person, going to be kinda hard....

Same as the one of the other posters. I have been issued one since my collision last year. It is due to be renewed in May I believe, at that point, it will likely be for the 5 year period, as the don't expect my ankle to get any better than what I have now.

Same as him, I use the permit on "bad days" when walking from the far end of the lot, into say a Walmart, then walking around inside is simply going to be too much. There are also days, when my ankle may be fine, but my shoulder injury is acting up, and it is difficult to carry, even a 5 lb bag.

On my "good days" it is still displayed but I don't use a parking space, rather I leave those for someone who may be in worst shape than I.

Go ahead, and challenge me, if you wish, just because I "may appear" healthy to you at that time, doesn't mean I am capable, of doing what someone else "thinks" I should be. My doctor has until now, (10 months post collision), only provided 3 month intervals, as he feels, he needs to monitor it. But my Orthopedic, and my Physio, and my Occupational Therapist all agree, I have pretty much reached my full potential, and this is my life going forward.

The only "advantage" I get is when I need to attend my local clinic, where the parking lot is a zoo, is that in Oshawa, the city provides FREE on street parking to those with a permit. UT, I am only at that clinic for therapy or to see one fo the many medical specialists, I am required to see. I am NOT in a handicapped spot, just a regular street space.

no...mind your own business and stop trying to be a cop, get on with your day and trust that karma is on your side

NO, if it's someone illegally parked there or abusing the permit, then they should be fined, ticketed, and permit taken away

may you never have to have the need for one of these spots, and some ****** bag uses it because they have it but don't have the right to have one

Like I said, personally one does not have to get involved and confront the person, just call Enforcement and let them deal with it, if it's legit no harm no foul, but if it's not, well let the chips fall where they may....

so people like this should just be given a free pass....

whatever floats your boat dude, you wanna go through life being a cop of others morality fill your boots

like I said, I just hope you never need one of those spots.....or a family member, or one of your buddies......

at that point it will become my business, in the meantime it's not for me to make value judgments about people based on nothing

and that's your choice, to intervene or not

I was brought up differently, if there is something wrong and I can help, then one should....

anyways, you have your moral compass and I have mine....

I am not looking to change yours

I lived in the GTA from age 2 until mid 20's.....after I got married I got to know the FIL quite well,
great guy. Chatting to him once while enjoying a very nice single malt, and he starting talking about
Toronto. He had spent the first half of his life in a small English town in eastern Quebec, then moved
to Ontario after the PQ formed a government.

One of his observations about Toronto was that everyone wanted to be a cop. Spent all day looking for
people doing things wrong so they could snitch them out. Apparently Quebec is not like that. I thought he
was nuts and just had the typical anti-Ontario bias of most Quebecers.

I've since lived and worked all over Canada, in Europe, Africa and the middle east. When I come back to the
GTA lately I notice that he is correct. Most other places people do not look to get police involved in things
unless it's a serious piece of business. Toronto people like to make value-judgments and get into someone
else's business, even when it is not doing them one bit of harm.

he has the facts

he asked her if she was handicapped, she said NO

what else did he do?

approached a woman he did not know, traveling alone, stuck a camera in her face and made repeated accusations

so it appears she was parked in that spot without proper credentials

there is no doubt the guy harassed her, try doing that GK, walk up to a woman your don't know and film her,
then start making accusations, see how that ends up

Well

the Police found it to be of concern

http://globalnews.ca/news/2596164/p...ng-tim-hortons-coffee-in-viral-tantrum-video/

TORONTO – A woman who pitched two cups of coffee at a man when he confronted her for parking in a handicapped parking spot outside a Tim Hortons has received a police warning after a video of the incident garnered international attention.

Toronto police spokesman Mark Pugash said Wednesday the videographer, Ryan Favro, had declined to press a criminal complaint but officers still paid a visit to the woman.

“We’ve cautioned her for assault and parking in a disabled spot, which is really what we can do under the circumstances,” Pugash said.

I can see how this one ended up......

"visual acuity is 20/200 or poorer in the better eye with corrective lenses if required"

Could someone explain this to me?

Welcome to Ontario where driving is a right. You can't discriminate based on blindness or inability to speak english (IIRC, you can take the G1 test in 40+ languages).

Nystagmus can do that, but I wouldn't wish it on you or anyone else. Basically, it means that you're somewhat blind even with glasses.
