+1. I also am new to riding and on a GSXR 600 so a similar riding style. I got numbness and cramps until I took the weight off my arms. I was riding with my elbows locked and leaning my weight on the bars. I would last about 10 minutes.
Squeeze gently with our knees and push down slightly on the foot pegs to take a little weight off your arms. Then like Reciprocity mentioned line up the diagonal crease in the palm of your hand along the top of the grip. This will naturally turn your elbows out and prevent putting weight on them. Like Recip said you will turn with your wrist like a door knob. Good luck.
