The problem with those magazine shootouts is that the bikes are all SO competent and SO similar to each other in specifications, that it's only possible to make the finest of hair-splitting judgments between them. And, that's when riding at a level that 99.9% of bikes sold, will never see, and at a level that will get you thrown in jail if done on the roads.
The shootouts never mention the little real-world pluses and minuses ... comfort on longish trips, whether there is enough of a storage cubbyhole under the passenger seat to fit your lunch or a spare set of gloves, ease of maintenance, etc.
Buy whichever fits you best. Differences in performance between the two is irrelevant.
