GSXR Master Cylinder Recall

I upgraded my 08 750 to R6 calipers/master and braided lines.

Huge difference.

Only thing you have to run is spacers as without them the calipers would sit too close to center line of axle and wouldn't clear the rotor.
 
Wish I knew the GSXR mc's were crap lol. I bought an entire 03 front end including brake setup for my project bike :(

Are they really that bad that I should sell my setup in exchange for an r1 setup?

03 pre-dates the recall
 
I guess we'll need the details of the recall ... the design would be the same, but it could be a problem with part manufacturing that did not arise until 04.

Ah, should have mentioned mine is a 03 1000. Looks like I am in the clear as far as the recall goes, but is the 03 1k mc still considered to be crap?

Not affected by the recall cause they are the old conventional type, but yes they are complete crap. I put R1 OEM radial brembo on my 03 1000 and it's much better

It seems you dodged a bullet. Now if you got a 05/06 youd have a frame made out of cornflakes ;)

The frame is fine unless you're stunting and dropping the crap out of it on and on in a parking lot. Ghostrider used the 05/06 1000 in a few of his movies, wheelied the crap out of it at high speeds and it held up ok. All modern sportbike frames will crack under severe stunting, just with the 05-06 1000's it happens faster

The GSXRs are known not to have good brakes compared to the competitors.

Why is it that they use a R1 brakes? What so special about them?

That's cause in North America you can get sued just for looking at someone, if the 05-06 were what people are making them to be everyone who's riding one would've died already. Some bike frames did crack under extreme riding conditions and this can happen with any modern sport bikes, Suzuki went and recalled all of them to avoid bad publicity and calm everyone down that we're doing something about it. The 05/06 was superbike of the year on both years and that's for a reason cause it can haul *****

You dont know what you are talking about, back when ENVY RIDES was open they replaced and or braced tons of those frames on street bikes...Normal street riders not stunt bikes....They had a kit to test for cracking, if it was cracked it got a complete replacement frame. If it wasnt cracked yet, they simply glued on a brace yes glued on! Like I said they had alot of regular street riders bring in bikes that were already cracked, and because of he recall they got brand new replacement frames from Suzuki.....Riding a bike on the street isnt an extreme condition IMO...

Understandable if your a GSXR lover, but no one is saying all of them are crap, but that specific generation and model had a bad frame design or maufacture

If you owned one and your frame was cracked, and there was no recall I dont think you would be so GSXR fan boy about your $3000+ bill to replace it

Because they use an OEM market Brembo, so everyone thinks its as good as a HP Brembo. When in fact they are not that much better then any other modern radial master cylinder that isn't Brembo...It can be an upgrade on some bikes, but its not the end all be all of radial masters...There are a lot of other good OEM radial style masters you can use to replace your conventional style master

Funny enough the 2005-2006 ZX6R uses the same master that is being recalled by Suzuki, it was just painted another colour....I wonder if those will have the same problem or if it was a specific run from Nissin that was made for Suzuki that are only bad......hummmm I sold a lot of them to people that I took of bikes to be upgraded, hope I don't any bad rep for them

Parts that are nominally "the same", made by a Tier 1 manufacturer for two different vehicle brands, often aren't exactly the same. The different paint colour is one thing, but the two vehicle manufacturers could have different performance or test specifications, and sometimes subtle differences in applications and vehicle environments can make "the same" part work in one vehicle but fail prematurely in another.

I own a vehicle in which if you park with the door facing the sun on a hot day for long enough, the latch will sometimes fail to latch the door closed when you shut the door. They had a recall on the vehicle generation before mine. No recall on mine, so I just have to park with the driver's door on the shaded side on a hot day and carry a tie-down strap in the car for when it doesn't latch shut ... And it's just a door latch made by a Tier 1 manufacturer that makes zillions of latches for countless different vehicles; how did they get this one wrong?? The warranty-replacement latch looks exactly like the original one, but works properly.

And I KNOW that Suzuki GSXR's have had frame welding issues outside of the models and years that were subject to that recall. Seen it happen ... know people that it has happened to. Suzuki is the one Japanese brand that I have never owned an example of, and I see no reason to change that ...

Some people do put street bikes under extreme riding conditions, they'll wheelie the hell out of them high speeds on the highway and slam the front wheel down hard. This type of riding will crack any sportbike frame, but in 05/06 gsxr this happens faster as they are WEAKER <--- I agree on this . You don't think kawi frames crack under this type of riding conditions? A few years back I met a guy on a ZX9R who was on his third frame already and he wasn't a parking lot stunter like you. He was a street rider who just rode fast, wheelied, stoppied. And he said I don't do wheelies and endos anymore cause I know they'll crack the frame again. The bike was in decent condition too, it wasn't like it was dropped 100 times and the frames were cracking from repetitive crashes.

LOL a long time ago my first bike was a kawi, just plenty of gsxr's after that... It's not that I think GSXR's are the best bikes in the world, but I do think they deliver the best bang for the buck. Usually cheaper than the other 3 japs, and lots of cheap used parts to do your own maintenance. In the 2000s the gsxr's usually came in with more features in stock than the other bikes like: steering damper, gear indicator, slipper clutch. Because of these little things they were consistely winning sportbike of the year awards. But at the end of the day, the rider is the limiting factor to what all of these sportbikes can do and you can't go wrong with any of them.
