Devils advocate here. OPP did set up a road block on a major highway, this year I believe, to stop some "exotic cars" that were speeding through traffic. It held up everyone on the highway. So it does happen.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but trapping cars is much easier than trapping bikes and they had a very convenient funnel (on-route center) that police could easily use to separate the offenders. Around Toronto the police would likely have to close a section of a major highway for hours.

Meanwhile sportbike underwriters just raised the risk profile in Toronto a little more, and prices will go up along with it. Too bad all the legal riders (not these no insurance no plate goons) now get to pay the price.

Shame that, especially when these "no insurance" goons don't actually cost the insurance companies a dime: They crash and mutilate themselves or destroy other people's property they've got no insurance company to run to...

I wish (don't we all?) that insurance companies would recognize the difference between these idiots and those of us that play by the rules.

Better go look at your insurance docs again, as they do cost us money actually. Look specifically at the line labelled "Uninsured motorist".

Of course the real reason the OPP is angry is because they can't do much about it. They've tried since last year and only made a four or five arrests. It think I saw like 400 motorcycles. Get to the bottom of it? Yeah, ok, good luck. Anyone can post a group ride on Instagram and get 100 riders. You also can't get the police cars in place in time to block a road off and stop them. So the best thing to do is try to understand why it's happening. We don't get much of an ear from politicians in Ontario.

High insurance fees from the 2 mafias, the Ontario government and insurance companies, are wholy responsible for this allleged, yes alleged, hooliganism on our highways. Young guys with sports bikes cannot get insurance, even those without tickets and with clean records, so they go about without insurance and without plates. They have nothing to lose. This is what happens when governments and corporations collude with each other to squeeze citizens. This is the result. I guarantee you that if insurance for sports bikes for a 19-year-old was $400/year we wouldn't have these massive hooliganistic organized bike rides.

I bet they are going to throw stunting charges even at those who just happened to ride there peacefully. They do this with smaller riding groups where the rider at the front who is stunting speeds away, meanwhile the ones that stop get charged with H172.

T'is a good point. I was thinking more of the costs associated with SABs and long-term care for the rider than the fender-bender type damage that usually results from a bike hitting a car.

So I'm thinking UM payouts are probably "low" in relative terms but definitely non-zero. Thanks for the clarification.

I'll tell you what this will guarantee, anybody with anything other than a stock licence plate setup will get stopped and ticketed now. The OPP will see this as a challenge to their ability to maintain control of the highways, and they will have to react. So get ready for the increased scrutiny.

If by stock you mean the factory fender then I disagree.

Anyone with a flip plate might get sweated a little though.

In the past I have been riding along and a big group of bikes appears. I gtfo out of the area, first ramp, first gas station,, whatever. I don't want to be a part of whatever happens.
