The DVP and Gardiner are closed properly as part of the Ride for Heart every year. You can apply for permits and pay police to safely close roads.

If the riders really wanted to increase awareness, a few calls to media and a line of bikes riding the speed limit with proper spacing kilometres long circling the highways around the city would probably get air time. They had quite a few bikes, if they wanted to, they could have done something good. Unfortunately this group of people just wants to be *****.

Agree. And if they do want to organise something of this nature next year, (bikes for blinkers, etc) I'd be happy to sign up.

That being said, during Ride for hearts or whatever, someones "dying wife" would still be forced to be taken to a hospital on a longer, more congested route, right? And there was a lot of talk about end of line collisions that "could have taken place", but there were none ACTUALLY reported, right ? Maybe these "hooligans" stopped in a gradual, safe, manner.

The report I read said they were all over the major highways in the GTA.
So the police knew what they were up to and could not stop them, not even a little?

Now the crying will ensue when every sportbike rider gets pulled over for any infraction by OPP and charged. Actions like this just make it hard for everyone on 2 wheels.

why didn't the cops do anything?? how hard would it have been to get a helicopter up to see which way they are going, and set up a road block?

looks like a bunch of hooligans on motorcycles are better organized than the police force.....they somehow managed to lead a group of 300+ bikes thru all the major highways without getting separated, or stopped.....

Setting a road block front and rear tight enough that bikes can't get through is not a trivial task and you would accidentally catch a bunch of innocent cars in the trap as well (who may then get crashed into by panicking aholes on bikes). It really is much safer to document and collect information and pick up the riders individually later.

Documenting these events also provides ammunition for laws regarding the owner of the vehicle being found guilty when the operator is unknown. It is not acceptable that your vehicle was used for illegal acts and you can just plead ignorance. Impound fees and potentially tickets (minus points on your license as you may not have been riding) should go to the owner unless they want to provide a sworn statement as to who was operating the vehicle to deflect the charges to the actual operator.

rather than wait and document, why not try and stop it in progress before someone gets hurt??
 
my guess if police roll cruisers , 200 bikes scatter and its a crapshow. So they collect dashcams from motorists that are HAPPY to help, squeeze some idiots that will rat on others and it slows down.

My thoughts are long term, we will see legislation that reads more than 10 motorcycles is an unlawful gathering and tickets get issued before a ride gets off the ground. Nobody thought bill172 would make it through where you get convicted before any court appearance so keep it up retards.

They would take an alternate route that allowed them to move instead of being stuck on a major highway for a bunch of burnouts from gta's finest squids.

Quit trying to justify what these idiots did.

Devils advocate here. OPP did set up a road block on a major highway, this year I believe, to stop some "exotic cars" that were speeding through traffic. It held up everyone on the highway. So it does happen.
 
As I ride or drive on the 407 in the right lane and am passed by everyone doing 135 or 140 kph I note that apparently 150 kph is so dangerous that your vehicle will be immediately seized and your license is suspended for 7 days.

HTA 172 came about because of idiots doing wheelies on 400 series highways and a number of tuner car street racing accidents and deaths. By and large this law is supported by the majority of the public.

If this more recent stupid riding becomes a real and persistent problem then you can expect the politicians, always looking for a way to score points with the broader electorate with an election coming up in 2018, will find some way to punish irresponsible riders in a way that hurts all of us.

These effin hooligans are just upping the heat on all riders in GTA! Making us all even more of a target!

Group rides are fine even big ones as long as people can respect others on the road!

So why wouldn't they take the same damn alternate route in this situation? In fact, the lack of notice to the public would ensure the alternate route would actually be less congested.

Not trying to justify what they did, just pointing out that the highways being closed for any reason other than construction, is stupid and counterproductive.

No, it came into play when a drunk idiot killed another person during a street race. Then some politician threw the event through optics for votes.
