gran turismo 5

There are a lot of things in that game that make me scratch my head...

Yeah, like for example how they handle traction control. The physics are pretty arcade ... I guess they call the mode arcade, so there's not much reality to be expected. On some cars you touch the brakes, doesn't matter how little, with steering different than straight, it unrealistically results in spinorama.

Is the model behaving differently when playing on-line?

I find the physics to be absolutely top notch. You just have to learn to... you know, drive.

And if you're using a regular controller you have to use the right analog stick for gas and brake. If you're using square and x buttons there's no sensitivity and it'll definitely feel like an arcade game. You need to be smooth on the throttle and brakes, and the analog stick is the only way to do it with a controller.

I use the L2 / R2 for gas and brake you can still modulate somewhat decently.

The only downfall of this game is the lack of sleep i'm getting.

Another race with some mates planned tonight, using matchsticks to keep my eyelids from closing.

If haven't touched the online portion yet, but is it possible to get a lobby set up for friends only? If so, we should get a big game set up for sometime this weekend...

Sounds like handful ... L2/R2 gas and brake with your index fingers, and thumb on your left joystick to steer? I will try that and see whether this gives any better control.

At some point I will end up with a wheel. Anything good for around 100 bucks, or is it all plastic garbage at that price point?

If the weather is not too shabby i'll be back on the bike instead of playing the PS3 ;)

For sure we should get something set up in the near future, will add you fellas and send you a message.

Still doing ok with the controller, I was considering going the wheel route but the prices for a Logitech or a Thrustmaster wheel are too much, but i think i be better off spending coin on a set of tires for the bike for when the weather turns nice again.

BTW the cheap wheel for $100 bucks at Future Shop looks like crap.

For that price(ish) you can find the Logitech DFGT on sale. It's a decent wheel, but no paddle shifters. I've modded a DFP with paddle shifters though (iShunt on GTP). For a bit more ($200ish) you could find a used G25/G27.

But what you really want is a Frex. Worm gear ball screw drive. $2000 + shipping from Japan (wheel only - no pedals). :)

Will have to try this, what do you use for upshift/downshift?

have been using the standard set-up of X= gas Sq=Brake R2 upshift L2 down shift.

The only downfall of this game is the lack .

Trust me, use the right stick for gas and brake. Take the time to get used to it. Smooth = fast in this game (and in real life) and the best way to do it with a controller is to use the stick.

Well, unless you have traction control at zero, to me it felt pointless to use the right stick for throttle. So what I ended up doing was to use the x button for throttle (since I don't need sensitive modulation on throttle, especially with traction control on) and the right stick for brake only. I am faster that way. I will try though the L2/R2 combo ...

When you get into the more powerful cars you absolutely need to be easy on the throttle even with TC on. And if you max out TC to the point where you can mash on the throttle freely, you'll be slow. It limits the cars too much.

Is there more powerful car than Zonda? Perhaps some cars unlock down the road I don't know of. But I found tapping the button few times quickly gets me through the turns faster than modulating the throttle with a stick. Maybe it's just me ...

there is no way in hell i could do the stick for throttle/brake.

I used L2 and R2 with great success on many games...

now i just rock a wheel! lol

Plenty of cars more powerful and harder to drive than the Zonda... wait till you get to the F1, or high end race cars like the Minolta Toyota and stuff.

Whatever works for you I guess... I just prefer to drive without TC and the other driver aids, its more fun. You gotta be precise, but you'll be faster.
