GPS Recommendation

Hey all,
Tried searching but nothing showed up for some reason...any recommendations for a GPS on the bike? I considered a motorcycle specific GPS (what does that even mean) and seeing prices I think I may go for a standard GPS that can be tossed b/w the car and bike.
The Volt doesn't have a GPS unit dedicated, but uses Apple Play (?) so don't want to use data when driving.
Hoping to say sub-$200.
I know some models, from reading here, there are some better / worse that allow you to upload routes, or to do select a more 'curve' filled road.
Thanks!

I considered a motorcycle specific GPS (what does that even mean)

Motorcycle-specific GPSes are:

weatherproof in the event of inclement weather - could be extreme heat and cold, not just rain and snow.
shockproof - in case you drop the unit or the motorcycle it's attached to.
vibration-resistant - not just the unit, but the electrical connections as well. 12V cigarette lighter plugs tend to vibrate a lot and could work loose or cause intermittent arcing between the connection, leading to corrosion of the socket and plug. That's why a solid wired connection is recommended or a motorcycle-specific 12V socket like a Powerlet or DIN
resistive touch screen which works with gloves as opposed to capacitive, like your smartphone that works only with the touch of your skin
twisty road routing option, as opposed to quickest way there

And lastly, and most importantly: the vehicle icon is a motorcycle and not a car!

These are the ultimate ones, depending on budget, can place handlebar controls too.

Otherwise, there are so many dedicated GPS apps now, even like Scenic which let you choose curves, I'd rather get a used Android/iPhone Plus and mount that with a Quadlock Wireless charger. Most phones are waterproof now, less laggy, live updates on traffic, can import/export gpx files too, and have a backup phone.Offline download themaps, and GPS still works without a cell signal

Thanks guys. I’ve considered a used cell phone but would def want something that doesn’t require any data. Just want it to rely on having power, and a GPS signal.

No need to use data with a phone. Download offline, like OsmAnd Maps, or even Google. Get region specific. Cellphone's GPS is separate from Data. OsmAnd and few others go into lots of detail, from off road trails, routes, etc
 Cheapest one is $1400 CAD!

F-n ballers in this thread.

I can't afford one, I wish :(

I’d get that...if I sold everything and went to travel the world. But alas....off to work I go!

I did sell everything and traveled the world, still wouldn't pay $1400 for a GPS!

I know you didn't ask for >$200, but I like my Garmin XT, it was on sale for $500 a while ago. Lots of bells+ whistles and nice large, bright screen.

Wonder if I could use the first gen iPad mini for this....just lying around doing nothing.

That’s what I’m looking for. What type of GPS is that @GateKeeper

That would work for both car and bike for sure.

I have the Garmin 590 and like it, but it's much more than $200.

There is a Zumo 660 for sale in Hamilton for $300.

Or a Zumo 220 for $200 in Barrie:

You know you can run your phone GPS off your network..?
To a degree anyway...

Yes I do. Would prefer not to use my main phone though.

For the longest time I used my old nuvi250, a car GPS I bought about 12 years ago.
GPScity sells a RAM cradle for it that is 100% secure.
A sun shade/visor from Anazon and a RAM ball mount and it is gtg.
I bought a dedicated power USB cable, also from gpscity.
The Nuvi works just fine, but I did eventually buy a garmin 396 which is an actual motorcycle GPS unit.

Have you heard of the Beeline? 30 hr battery life.

I just use my android phone with my Sena. Tells me where to go.
Since you don't want to use data, you can hook up GoogleMaps to download specific areas (thousands of square kilometres each), multiple selections etc. Once a month you'll need to connect your phone to your wifi again and let it update the downloaded maps.

Other option, is use an app called "Navigator" - you can download select provinces/states or even countries for free. You can also purchase TomTom maps for it at a small fee. If you're wanting a fastest route, sometimes the TomTom maps are a bit off, and GoogleMaps is much better.

edit - deleted a redundant question.
