Hey guys, girl hit my 2000 honda prelude tonight at queensway and hurontario. Dented my trunk and pushed my bumper with enough for to give it a 3 in crack on one corner where the bumper is cut out for the plate.

How long do I have to my a claim and she said she wanted to pay cash. She was driving her boyfriends truck. He wasn't there. Anyone know a Bodyshop I can get a quote at in Mississauga. Close to Mavis and burnhamthrope road.

Theres a great body shop in port credit, lakeshore and seneca ave. i forget the name but i totalled my car hitting a deer and they fixed the entire front end, flawlessly.

You have 1 year from the date of the accident to pursue a claim with your insurance company.
Get a Quote from Assured Mississauga - 3535 Hawkestone Road, Mississauga, ON L5C 2V1 905-272-1144

I would of went asap to report the accident,I hope she pays up,and have heard a few stories about people getting stiffed like that.

I took it to my mechanic close to work that has a body shop too, He quoted me 1250 everything. New bumper, new push bar and pull out dent on truck and paint bumper and trunk. I called her she said ok, Got a called from her boyfriend that said she called him crying and he said that the quote was a bit to high and to take it to the bmw bodyshop here in heartland mississauga.(He told me, he knows the manager and he got a full body kit on his 7 series for a good price.)

What you guys think should I do next I don't want to rip anyone off but I also don't want to get ripped off. I don't know how good of a job this guy he knows is going to do on my car.

if for any reason you think they won't pay, go through insurance. you're not at fault, let them worry about it.
I get you're trying to help out and all, but anyone that knows those cars and repairs, would jump at anything close to a G to fix it.

Good luck, but the longer this goes on, the more of a headache it will be.

This is completely predictable - don't worry about being "nice" by trying to not go through insurance. There are many examples on this forum alone where it rapidly turns into a massive hassle. You tried, you gave them a quote, they have basically refused it. Next step is to go through insurance - if they can't afford the repairs, that's basically what their insurance is FOR.

Of course, be prepared for your car to be written off.

We'll I put in a new engine I hope insurance won't write it off. I'll just buy it back.

When you take it to the body shop to fix it.. make the BF come along and put the deposit on his credit card right away. As others have mentioned, the longer it gets delayed.. .the more effed you will be,.

You need to tell him that the moment his gf rammed his truck up your Hondas *** he lost the ability to negotiate. Last thing I'd be doing is taking it to a a shop that's buddy buddy with him. You presented a fair and unbiased shop quote.

Insurance time!!

You did nothing wrong and are already being nicer than you need to be. I've had a similar situation where I got hit (from the front! when the guy backed up) and ripped my bumper off. Since he was crying and illegally here I was nice as well. Then he got to be a dick where he said it should cost $300 where it was actually $700 for repaint and make like it was (3 month old car). He told me to go $@#$ myself and I said 'no problem, I'm actually outside of the police station right now to report the collision'

Soon as he heard that, we met up and I had $700 in my pocket.

You did what's right, get the money in cash or credit card to the shop, and get your car fixed. If they fight, go to reporting centre, call insurance, and let them deal with it.

Good luck with everything Domon! Really unfortunate for you. I don't have any advice that hasn't already been given, but please keep us updated as to how things unfold.

Sounds like he's just asking for a second quote. I would ask for one too if I knew I had to repair a 14 year old Honda Prelude.

I also value my time and wouldn't be driving around to body shops on my spare time to make the other party happy.

Give him a list of parts that need replacing, tell him to call whatever body shop he wants that is 'in close proximity to you' to get a quote over the phone. Give him a 24 hour deadline to either find a agreeable body shop, pay your money, or lube up for insurance.

**Also remember to factor in the rental car cost for the repair. The only thing you should be out of pocket is the time it takes you to pick up your vehicle from the body shop.

If the guy thinks $1250 is a lot he doesn't know body work. Also the BMW manager likely doesn't own the shop and therefore can't give away company profits by working cheap. He might help by putting it through on a fleet rate but the BMW start rate would likely be high, negating the savings.

Also, what if they find something else when they start working and you've locked into the $1250? Call your insurance company and give them the headaches.

The only exception I would make would be if the car was driveable as is and I was going to scrap it in the spring. Then I'd pocket the $1250 towards a new set of wheels.

tick tock.

Tell him you don't have time for all of this, pay the $1250 or you're going through insurance. If he starts to get mad just put him in his place; he's the one who hit YOU (well his gf anyways).

This is one of those situations that the girlfriend was 100% at fault, so they have to pay. You should be polite and all, BUT you do not have to be that nice.

You already had the courtesy of getting a quote for them, so they have the two options (cash or insurance). I would not get a second quote in this situation. EXCEPTION: I do not want to rip off anyone, so if I go to the body shop and the guy says "$2,500 to fix it" or something ridiculous that doesn’t ring true, I would get a second quote in principle - body shops that rip off insurance are not helping me either.

Also, factor the taxes and the rental car, likely a few days. Is that included in the quote?

Last, do not take it to his body shop (I know I wouldn't).

he got a full body kit on his 7 series for a good price.

Dude drives a BMW with a full body kit and he's squawking about $1250? You've tried to be nice - get the full $ or go through insurance asap.

I'm no insurance expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn. He has no real grounds for negotiating other than how long he'd like to take it in the ___. Play hardball as described above. This is my choice, this is my preferred body shop, and the quote will go up $60 every day to cover the cost of a rental. Come meet me with payment or I walk in to report the collision.

What's to stop them from saying it wasn't them in a week? I'm assuming nothing is on paper, no cops and no accident report....

As for pocketing the cash my mom once hit someone in stop and go traffic. Her car had scratches on bumper that disappeared when buffed as the "tap" was maybe at 5-10 km/hr. They claimed the clips that held bumper on were broke. Asked for $750 to cover it. I said fine, but let's make the cheque out to the bodyshop directly....they never called back.
