Hi guys,
so got my renewal papers today Intact (Javco) and for some reason my premium went up from 681$ to 840$ last year went up some 50$ this year 159$ (No Comprehensive and No Collision). I have M license, clean record, 36 years old, riding 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50. Should I start shopping around or im ok?
Thanks

When it comes to insurance you should always shop around.
As to your price I have no idea if that is good or not as I am not familiar with that bike.

Its always good to shop around if you don't like what you see. Most of people Jevco rates went up because of the move over to Intact

Jevco is going up 20% in or around April and they are dropping anyone with just motorcycle insurance. You have to have your car/house or such with them ..

Really? That stinks. I switched to Jevco (for bike insurance only) when I upgraded to a bigger bike last June. Their price was the best for the coverage offered. I haven't received my renewal yet. Poop.

I was just on the phone with an agent from easyinsure ( got insurance thru them) and she told me that everything is fine with my account, and the price o well it is what it is.

is this a fact?? I have so many tickets I'll be ****ed going anywhere else...I kept sliding under the radar because Jevco has never looked into my record the past 3 years.
I only have my bike with them so I really hope you're wrong about this...

edit: Just called my broker and he said he has not heard anything in regards to Jevco dropping motorcycle only policy holders. Intact will insure home/auto while Jevco will continue the motorcycle end of it...I could give a **** less if they increase it 20% because no one else will even touch me.

No brokers are aware of it yet, as it hasnt been released.

Pretty sure tied selling is illegal with regards to insurance they can jack your rate but not refuse to sell.

I thought they were also bound by strict rules regarding rate increases. Surely they can't all of a sudden come up with statistics that make someone a risky enough driver to charge exorbitant rates.

Jevco/Intact have published their new rates for 2013. They will be rating more on a individualized basis, the first three letters of your postal code will impact your rates. The territories (where you live) have gone from 2 with Jevco to 55 with Intact. Therefore depending on where you live you may see higher increases or if you are a lucky one a decrease.
They will surcharge starting at one ticket where Jevco let you have two free. To answer the person who has been sliding under the radar for the past three years... you may still be able to do that. I would doubt that Intact will run every motorcycle client's driving record as it costs them money.
Intact does not plan on cancelling stand alone motorcycles. They bought Jevco because they want to be in the motorcycle business.
Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for clearing this up. I should have been given the :thebirdman: but I haven't had any claims, have always paid on time and have not given them any reason to look into me...I guess that's kept me under the radar. Any idea on the surcharge for tickets with Intact?
I was calling Statefarm to get a quote for a 1000cc when I turn 25 but they asked me for my license #, would that be to look into my record or something prior to giving me a quote on the phone? If you say companies have to pay to check the record, I'd doubt they want to do it for just a quote on the phone...
Also Jevco had switched from 4 payments to 6, will Intact be the same or will they hopefully switch to 12 monthly payments?

Just be happy with that price... I'm paying 4000 plus a year for a cbr125! I pay more then you pay in a year in 2 months.... I lol at ppl who cry about spending money on something that they do as a hobby. Choose to ride, you choose to pay!

I was going to say something......but then decided not to because it would be mean and pointless......but I had to write something.

Guessing you're young and have a VERY bad record or something....
When I was 19 with an at fault claim AND a ticket, I my quote was $3500 for a cbr125.... That being said, I waited a year to qualify for Jevco at the time and paid about $2000...

Right now with the ticket and at fault claim still on my record, I'm paying $1450 with StateFarm...

You made me lol'd

Either way, they'll run a check before issuing you a policy and that will determine your final premium.

I wanted a hypothetical quote to get an idea of what I'd be paying on a liter bike two years from now when I turn 25, because I'm already starting to save for it...

just stay away from your brother's big boy bikes and you'll be ok...

I plan to keep it under 600cc's anyways even after the accident comes off my record.
