Gorilla vs Scorpio Alarm Systems

Except that some insurance companies (TD for one) require professional installation.

I don't think that's something they follow up on. If they ever do an inspection, well its a harness..it's plugged in. Couldn't you just say a friend of yours, who is a licensed mechanic, installed it for you free of charge. I'm sure they wouldn't mind anyways, theres detailed instructions on installing with the harness given by the manufacturer. You could also argue your alarm does not require professional installation.

I don't trust insurance companies to not try to avoid a payout if I can't prove it was professionally installed which is why I have a receipt for the install.

That said, while my bike is in pieces for mods / maintenance, I will be re-wiring it more to my liking.

Fedex charged me an extra $43. Luckily, I had it shipped to my work and they covered it.

Did they ding you for taxes as well as the $43? Might still work out cheaper than buying locally...

So it came, didn't get dinged by FedEx though. Happy camper!

An alarm helps keep the kiddies off your bike by embarrassing their idiotic parents

THIS.

I had a gorilla years ago. like someone said it was very unreliable. Friends or strangers wanting to pose on my parked bike would jump on my bike, it wouldn't go off. Tf a garbage truck drove by, it went off.

fwiw, I'd save your money. no one ever pays attention to alarms when they go off now.

Here's what it cost me for anyone who is interested. I bought it straight from Scorpio's site. They shipped it with US postal Service. Canada Post completed the delivery to my office.

I got the i900, proximity sensor, engine disable, and harness for a CBR600.
$339.85 USD + $43 shipping came up to 382.85USD ($428.36 CAD charged on credit card)
Customs charged an extra $28.

When I was shopping around at some local stores, the price was pretty much the same, but that was just for the i900. no extras.

does anyone even pay attention to alarms anymore? I'd be more inclined to spend my money on something where I can track my vehicle.

The Scorpio 1100 ($700~) has a tracking system as well as other functions. Or i believe that is the model number, was just looking one up at work today. It hooks up to your smart phone, laptop and is quite fancy.

that model was replaced at the end of 2013 by the new RIDE system by scorpio. Canadian resellers still unloading old stocks at high prices.

I'm quite familiar with their systems as i've done a few installs over the years. i900 is a decent piece of kit.

the new system is very easy to install and use

Just want to +1 everyone else's remarks: Never tried Gorilla, had a Scorpio i800. Very convenient and had it professionally installed to satisfy my insurance company (about 45m of install time with the quick connector, but it only took that long because the connector works but wasn't designed/didn't have instructions for my bike). Didn't stop my motorcycle from being stolen but at least it was never much of a PITA either.

Alarm: Annoy neighbours, scare off filthy children, make your insurance company smile.
Physical security (locks, where you park, lighting, etc): Deters theft.
