Have you thought about putting it on the clutch side so you can utilize your clutch hand to manipulate the buttons on the go

The sticky pads are super strong, but the key to having them work well is to first CLEAN THE MOUNTING SURFACE. Get some alcohol and clean it well, ensure there is no oils or wax left on the area. Also, ensure you choose the correct mount...curved or flat...to ensure maximum contact. If water or solvents get under the pad, it can weaken it, allowing it to fall off.
As for suction, I havent used the GoPro official mount, but I bought the tripod adapter, and the Fat Geko (http://delkin.com/c-155596-mounts-fat-gecko-extreme-camera-mount.html). It held solid through some abuse, visible here:

wanted something with a screen on it. looks like they jacked up the price after i ordered
damn, mine only has 80% contact.
I used the curved mount on my helmet but there's a bit of a gap/poor contact area.
now it's a waste if i remove the mount! argh so frustrating..
Yeah, I have since moved it over to the clutch side.
