Google gps - any thoughts

It works as advertised :) I've been using it for a while now. I save maps to offline before I go, then switch to live mode if I need more info (traffic, satellite or street view, search etc). For navigation, I sometimes use car mode - you can navigate and play your music with a nice GPS like interface.

It's not a replacement for zumo, but net connection and all the extras that come with it make it worthwhile. my 2 cents.

Yes it works i use it often and if i lose the signal usually takes 5 seconds to get it back.

right now i have been using Google maps on my blackberry. i get live updates for traffic. but its a pain in the *** to use while driving.

Funny, how you tend to need a GPS the most where there's no signal for your phone. I switched to a real GPS for that reason.

Not to mention you'd never want to use this while traveling in the US.. the data charges would be astronomical..

But it is handy in a pinch, I have it on my phone and use it to quickly find something while in the cage if I forgot the zumo on the bike.

Yes, the dead zones are annoying but, I used it on my BB for my Montreal trip and it was surprisingly accurate, especially for traffic as Montreal is a construction war-zone right now....

LOL!

The tunnel was fun, and would be an ideal location for post-apocalyptic movie shoots.

A real challenge navigating lane changes to catch a ramp with zero advance notice i.e. this way for following 4 routes, get to a light and the ramp for mine is on the opposite side. Glad to be on a bike, no issues beating the others at the light to catch my lane. ;)

Try Blackberry Traffic for route guidance. Pretty cool little app.

And yeah, standalone GPS is the way to go.
