Hi was wondering how do you know you should change your chain? I dont think mine has been lubed/cleaned properly for 1000 kms by the previous owner. Should i change it to be safe or if i lube it up it'll be fine?
Ken (kneedragger88 on here replaced the one on my K6) and I'd recommend him. I imagine he's busy this time of year though but I've got a great mechanic in Bowmanville with a big secure shop (pm me if you're interested) that does all the work on my bikes and I'm sure he'd even do your chain while you waited if you wanted.
feel for kinks in the chain. check youtube
Kinks on the chain like scraches? to what extent tho sorry i cant youtube atm im at work so its blocked hahaha
When rolling the back tire and as the chain goes by;
- if you see that there's a kink anywhere along the chain
- if you see areas of the chain that seem flat as they go by
- if you check the tightness of the chain at various points and it's different
if you can pull links off the back sprocket enough that you can see about half a tooth UNDER the area you pulled up
These are all indicators that your chain may be done.
Oh okay thanks! so kinks = stuck together? and then flat areas = looseness dropping down?
Dont come to Brantford Motorcycle that's for sure. I was in a jam ......and my 05 GSXR1000 needed a chain and rear sprocket installed on short notice. I usually do it myself but was leaving for Pennsyvania right after work.
I dropped the bike, new chain, and sprocket off at bike shop and went to work. After work I went to get the bike and was handed a bill for $189.00 + tax for just a chain install.
I told the service writer I had to hurry off on a weekend bike trip and didn't have time to argue... he had one minute to rethink his bill......and if he didn't, I would pay it, but I would never return. He said he felt that a simple chain and sprocket install ( that takes me 30-40 mins to do myself, kneeling on my garage floor or in the pits at the racetrack) was perfectly justified at $189.00!
I have 6 bikes and he lost business by screwing me one time big, rather than making a fair margin on many return visits. I also now take every opportunity to tell anyone who will listen, the story of the service theives at Brantford Motorcycle.
Is Ken the Bowmanville guy? or do you got Ken number by chance and his shop location?
