I dont drink much(hardly at all tbh)
but Id like to buy beer as a sign of appreciation and thanks for someone who did me a favor, what should I get them?,
provided I have no idea about their tastes?
What would be 'good beer'?

Thanks

Get them an IPA from a popular craft brewery. Most people like that.

Can find some mixed sampler packs in lcbos from local brewers.

If you don’t know their taste get a sampler pack of something. Gives a few different options.

Or just mix and match.

Or…if it’s a special thanks thing and you know they like beer, get them one they can keep and age.

Guinness. Anything else might as well be water.

Beer can be very polarizing, a sampler pack, maybe local micro brewery is the best bet. There will likely be something their speed and it might introduce them to something they did not know yet that they like.

IPA, not everyone likes it.
Guinness, I know I would end up poring it down the drain and I am not a watered down beer drinker.

Of course if you knew, which you don't, a 24 of their brand is the go to.

I like Guinness….but it’s a very specific taste and definitely not even in my top 10.

Don’t ever do that to Guiness - let me know and I will pick it up.

Even if you guess wrong, it will be ok. You have made the effort which will be appreciated. If the recipient doesn't like what you picked, it becomes the friends and family supply when people visit.

Well I need a better disposal option when it happens, last time I got a fine from the city for dumping toxic waste into the sewers.... :)

All kidding aside, when it comes to beer people will have strong preferences, what is a great beer for one is awful to another. For example, I enjoy London Pride or the likes "warm" (cellar temp as it should be) but I get others will hate it. Sort of like buying a very bold red wine for someone that pounds back the Chardonnay. The gesture is of course nice but it could have been nicer!

That's why in this context a mixer pack is the best option. Either that or something more middle of the road....

A few years back on here I gave away a motorcycle (CB400) and the guy that picked it up gave me mixer pack (was not expected) but I appreciated it and enjoyed it that night....
