Golf

"FLOG" I still have my old Arnold Palmer autographed set, but my little brother loaned out my woods, and they disappeared decades ago.
Now the woods are the size of an old squash racquet.

I use my dads palmer irons, he isn't going to golf again. The woods are in their basement and have been replaced with economy modern "woods". Mishitting a real wood is almost as uncomfortable as mishitting a bat. It quickly teaches you to stop sucking (or find a different sport).

Havent golfed in years. Back when I did, I replaced my wooden woods with the 'new' metal ones. Only ever heard a 'ting' once, on a par 5. None of our foursome saw here it went so we figured just drop another somewhere down the fairway. When we got over a hill we got yelled at by the group ahead. Apparently my tee shot came down close to them. We didnt even know there was a group ahead. Never heard that sound again. I tried to sell them once and got laughed at....'where did you get the antique metals?'. I still have them

My driver was $30 at walmart ~15 years ago. That shows my level of commitment to golf.

This may be a dumb question but....I'm right-handed, and I would swing from right to left, would the clubs I use be right-handed?

Most likely but tbh you have to swing some clubs to know for sure. I’ve known many people that shoot left in hockey but swing right in golf. Other examples to the same point as well.

Go to a driving range (if you don’t have anyone to loan you a few clubs of each hand) and rent some clubs to swing to see what feels most comfortable

I have a pretty decent right handed swing (relative to my left) but the left is more comfortable for me

Left in hockey, left in golf, right in baseball, right in scything.

Thought it had something to do with grip type but no, just comfort

I’m still crap at it but got my first birdie last week. Very pleased.

Anyone else play?
I used to play once or twice a year before I retired. After retirement I got a part-time job at the golf course at Hockley Valley Resort. I'm not there for the minimum wage, it's the free golf that keeps me working 10 hours a week.

I bought some used TaylorMade irons off Kijiji a couple of years ago and a driver and 3-wood from an online company that sells used clubs. The new clubs have helped, but my game has improved more ever since I started playing on a weekly basis. It's still not good enough to justify paying any money to play anywhere else.

I haven't bought a golf ball since I started working at the golf course 10 years ago. I'm getting selective on the golf balls I keep, because I couldn't possibly use up all the ones I have found so far. These days I just toss the lower quality ones back in the bush and carry on.

I haven't done golf in 25+ years. Used to play daily, memberships at a couple courses. Came off nights and went golfing.
We played a lot of "Bingo Bango Bongo Boingo".
Bingo - longest drive.
Bango - first on the green.
Bongo - closest to the hole.
Boingo - first in the cup.
Five or ten bucks each. (Par 3's were only closest and 1st in)
You could win or lose a good days pay in a round....lol.
There's several sets of clubs in my basement, including 2 sets of hickory sticks. One set is L/H, the other is R/H. I'd consider selling, or trading them.

My favourite club…

Played a lot of golf with coworkers. Eight of us would do a weekend up north years ago. Lots of fun, but a bit too much booze. Always played Timberwolf (premium) and Meadow Springs in Noelville (scary, goofy golf) and sometimes Deer Run outside Parry Sound.
