I used to hate it….really quite enjoying it lately.

My buddy has a voucher book, one little 9 hole course we play is $10 a round and it’s a decent course. Amazing value for money. I have a set of clubs I bought off Kijiji which I suspect might not have been lawfully owned (slightly shifty transaction) and I added a few hybrids which are my favourite clubs.

I’m still crap at it but got my first birdie last week. Very pleased.

Anyone else play?
 
Have a set of golf clubs I bought 15 years ago after trying it once and thinking ‘new hobby, cool!’

Used them once since then and always feel like selling them, but always hope to get golfing again.

Only people I know that golf play at Credit Valley….I suck too much to play there. Will hit the driving range when it cools off.

At $10, I might play more. It's ok but I don't enjoy it enough to pay the rates normally charged. I also have issues with too much distance and not enough control. If a shot goes wrong (often), it get's way off course. My MIL whacks it 50-75 yards up the middle over and over. Always hits the fairway but no fun.

The last time I may have golfed was in florida. Playing with snowbirds. First tee I used pitching wedge from the tee and that was way too long. wtf. Second hole they tell me to use driver, aim right of a tree and hit over a fence. No problem. I hit the shot they told me to. Feeling good for two seconds until they tell me I am probably in an unseen pond beyond. Driver works for them not for me. Ugh again. It was a long round.
 
There's a reason it's also called Whack, F@#$. Best part of golf is playing in best ball tournaments with some good buddies and enjoying some adult beverages

And golfing outfits for the ladies. My wife doesn't golf often but has high natural athletic ability. She got entered in a tournament for work so she went out and bought a golfing outfit. Damn. Maybe I should golf more.

Still awesome after all these years.

 
used to play weekly half a lifetime ago when I was in sales
enjoyed it and got somewhat okay at it
bag full of clubs... ended up using just the 3W, 2 & 6 & 9 Irons and putter

thinking about picking it up again
some courses around me are quite nice and have affordable weekday memberships

2 iron? You're a glutton for punishment. Interesting club choices but a nice light bag if you leave the rest out.

could never hit a fairway wood, or a driver
driving with a 3 wood would leave me a long way away on par 5's or long 4's
the 2 iron was low and generally straight with decent distance
made for a lot of bogies, but better than hunting for drives in the bushes constantly
 
Use to play 36-45 holes a day 3 days a week when I was a kid.
 
Still play “socially” a few times a year with friends who play all the time and have played 5 games this season with my son.
Actually played in Niagara with him yesterday.

Now that I am retired, I have a bit more time where before, I usually chose the Motorcycle.

Golf is basically played in the same season we ride our Motorcycle and a round of 18 and lunch take as much time as a nice ride up north.

My Golf friends are as passionate about the game and equipment as we are about our bikes.
 
Just got back from a game. Walked the course, 9 holes only just bearable in this heat. I count my game by balls lost and gained. I’m down 2 balls from today, most of mine went swimming. I have a slice that I can’t shake but it’s consistent so I really like dogleg rights and hate dogleg lefts. All in all a good walk spoiled as someone famous once said.
 
Look out for voucher books, my buddy paid $28 for the two of us for 9 holes today with a voucher. Cheap entertainment for a few hours.

My uncle cares about golf and starts every game with a new ball. I have a milkcrate of his "old" balls in the garage that are more than good enough for me.

I don’t buy new…my slice ensures a decent number of balls go walkabout in the boonies. Used balls seem hard to come by this year though and the courses are so rammed that my favourite skinflint pastime of searching for other peoples lost ones, is frowned upon.

I played dentonia once. There was a family "playing" a round but mainly searching for balls. They walked onto our hole and took our balls and walked away. wtf. We yelled at them and they pretended they didn't know enough english to understand the issue and kept going with their search. It was the mom, not a child that took our balls.
 
Also watch where you park...some guys car got dinged today from an errant (not mine) ball. Pretty eloquent swearing went on for about 5 minutes from what I could hear.
