Giving up street riding, track only. Ever done it?

I love my bike too much to sell it..

If you just want to do a basic track setup it won't cost you too much. But its a slippery slope... and the fancy parts can start to add up really quickly.

QFT!
I just picked up a 2005 CBR600RR and with just the basic add-ons, it's adding up real quick.

You've falling in love with a 10 year old laptop or a worn out pencil.
As long as he's not racing, what's the point in having the latest/fatest/most technologically advanced SS?
He doesn't really have to add anything to his bike other than race fairings and maybe rearsets for adjustability/grip.

It doesn't matter how advanced it is..... but he'll spend way too much into converting that.

That and if he loves it that much, he'll be too afraid to push it in fear of potentially crashing it.

How many tdays have you done?

I race an old clapped out CBR, but i tracked a newer 08 bike this week. The difference in power, handling and braking is night and day.

Trust me go with something newer, sell the pencil. ;)

Just out curiosity, what year is your CBR?
And to answer your question, none.
I just picked up a track bike a couple of weeks ago and I'm in the process of getting everything together.

At first... yea.

As any rider's abilities improve there is a long list of things that become nice to have.

Serious question, should I not dump too much money in upgrades for that gen CBR? (05)

Whose bike was this, Inferno's?
No, some ******-bag lawyer who kept it stock with the exception of Armour Bodies, Vortex sliders, SS brake lines and an Ohlins piston kit.
So far I've ordered a full Yosh exhaust, driven sprockets (-1/+2) did erv3 chain and vortex rearsets.
Still have to get a PCV/Autotune.

Doing a real prep for the track---that's where the fun begins :) Removing all street stuff, fairings, maybe some kind of cage....i'm addicted!

Bro can I have your left fairing? :D I have the exact same bike with the same mods, my left fairing got chewed by a racoon... Was gonna stop to say hi and look at your bike yesterday but with the 15 mins off 15 mins on, never really got a chance...

I used to track my street 03 750, but after a few spills, that bike got beat up like crazy. In June I bought a 2003 GSXR600 with irrepairable title for cheap, took the street lights off completely blocked the headlight hole with a plastic, put frame sliders and extended spools, other than that it's 100% stock, and I had an amazing time yesterday. Will need to get braided brake lines soon though, one thing at a time I have plenty of time to add track stuff for next season...

Doesn't sound very stock when the bike has Ohlins stuff on it.

I hear you. I did the same as you are planning - took my much beloved street bike and converted it for track use. It is an ongoing process and yes, it is expensive, and yes, fear of smashing it all to bits does hold me back some.

As I get faster I find I need / want more stuff. I already had upgraded suspension and some intake / fueling / exhaust mods, and got sliders before my first track day, but by the end of that day I wanted different wheels (my OEM ones took tubes) and different tires, then later a lap timer. Start of this season it was a fairing, LiFePO battery and steering damper. Now, a slipper clutch, and some 4-pot calipers waiting to go on.

Would it have been cheaper to just buy a track bike? For sure! Would I do it differently if I had to do it again? Nope. Like you, I love my bike, and since the track is the only place I ride, I am going to ride the bike that turns my crank. Sure I could be learning faster on some ratty old ex-racer SV650, but for me tinkering with the machinery and doing the mods is half the fun.

So, yeah, you can do it either way...but just be honest with youself as to what you are getting into!

He gave me the invoice, I can't remember the exact details but I know it was done at Rider's Choice.
He did the bare minimum, that's all.
