Getting stuck behind a Harleytrain

Yes and numbers and percentages can mislead also. For instance,I would bet, that most serious skateboard injuries were sustained by boys between the age of 12 and 18 year olds last year. Of course the old dogs got in more crashes and fatalities , they're the majority of riders out there. Add to that, they travel further and more often than the young guys who have a hard time with insurance etc. and I wouldn't expect otherwise. Just read what happened yesterday P.E. county. A 4 wheeler crossed the centre lane and took out 8 bikes and killed 2 ,maybe more. That's 2 fatalities that were probably not the fault of the riders.

Oh the humanity of it all... stuck behind a slower moving set of bikes for 10 minutes. How does one ever recover from such trauma? You should seek immediate counselling as this has surely triggered PTSD. Of course, if a person on an SS blows by you on the 507 at warp speed, that is no cause for concern. So you had to ride a bit slower for 10 minutes, on a VERY scenic parkway that attracts people from all over just to see the sights.

Perhaps you should write to the governor, state assembly, congress, the house of representatives as well as the POTUS, and demand that all harley's, trucks, cars, motorholmes, buses, and any other object which may impede your ability to ride unmolested from the roads immeidately...lol After all, you are entiteld to ride in the manner that suits you best.

I am sure due to this tragic event you got to your final destination about 38 seconds later than you would have had they not been on the road...lol

PS you might want to check the various ride websites so you can avoid things like rides for dad, and highway of heroes, (that is when you WILL get tied up and it won't be for 10 miuntes either).

Don't make fun, everyone was a newbie at some point. It's smarter for them to ride slow until they gain the experience than ride out of their limit and crash.

but they should also know to wave clearly faster riders by

I got stuck in a HD train traveling east on the 401 a few weeks ago for Americade. It was terrible. Hundreds of bikes and some were taking up both lanes of the 401. Even when I pulled over at an ON Route for gas, I still caught up to the parade a few minutes later. I just had to go with the flow

Oh the humanity of it all! You were forced to go with the flow!!?!

You are doing quite well if that's the worst thing you'll have to face all month.

now credit to the OP in that his encounters were only with groups of 2 - 6, "normally" that size group is polite and manageable. But as one of the recent posts indicates "hundreds" of bikes there is NO way to see what is happening in the rear when your at or near the front of that many bikes. The ride leaders may have very well told everyone to stay in the right lane, but you can't possibly "control" what a bike 75 bikes behind them does. Just look at highway of heroes even with the police escorts.

This is exactly why it was so frustrating. We are talking about vehicles that are doing 15 mph (25 kph) below the speed limit through the most epic curves that I traveled 1000 km to get to. I'm not saying they don't have the right to do this, but please be respectful to other road users who are not riding on a couch in shorts and t-shirts by letting us pass. All other cars were courteous enough to do this when they had a chance. I guess riding a dresser harley makes you king of the road.

this is kind of beside the point but i gots to ask...why do some harley riders insist on riding side by side ?
i was out near creemore yesterday and i lost count of the number of times i saw this...its just plain stupid...if you need to make an evasive maneuver theres nowhere to go ! ive never seen anyone other than harley/cruiser people ride this way ..everyone else rides staggered...is there some reason for it that im missing ??

Not true. He was doing exactly 59 in a 60.
I was worried that I was not going to be able to ride the entire hill slipping my clutch at that speed. I was ready to pass him when he sped up.

Probably at rattlesnake point. Funny enough the other day im riding there with other guys, there were 3 cops at the bottom of the hill... The supervisor was leaving (SUV) and he was riding up the hill at about 20-30kph... the 600 and 1000s were cursing him ... and then when it opens up again on a 60kph road, he was rolling 40kph in front of us...

argh

I have a theory that I practice. Watch the mirrors and if you see something coming up behind you...well move over and wave threw, they are moving faster....pretty simple isn't it?

Can you really Wheelie that bandit?

Btw, I'm chilling at a Timmies after a tune & ride

Shouldn't be riding a SS and not be able to competently handle it. Ya know, there are people who can drag knees on their 125/250, buy and SS and then tear it up..... Those guys who start on 600's or liter bikes are the slow ones.... Also the guys who upgrade after a month and 1200 km because it's "too slow"....

Ya np but it runs out of steam in the upper revs lots of tourque but lack of horsies and being almost 600 lbs dont help either

One of my pet peeves, Hardly, tractor riders side by side at walking speeds, making so much noise you would think a war had started. Obviously feeling that dressing like a pirate grants you extra special privileges when riding. Just plain common sense would dictate that you shouldn't do this kind of thing, but just spend a hour or so at the Hockley General Store on a Sun. afternoon and you will completely understand, row after row of chrome laden junk, emitting unbelievable amounts of noise while producing upwards of 50 hp. and generally aggravating the locals. At least the "real" bikers ride their Harleys at pretty fast speeds and generally prefer not to attract too much attention. Last week I saw a guy in Hockley wearing the whole pirate costume, black T-shirt, jeans, leather vest with patches, and the most important "dew rag" in skulls, and he was riding a scooter! Come on you guys, either ride faster or move over. My bike may weigh almost 600lbs. but it makes just under 150hp. not 60hp.

Actually, I DO avoid most such rides. Port Dover on Fri 13th in warmer weather will find me somewhere else. Charity rides are awful if one is aboard a sport bike.

The H-D and touring bike crowd might not be aware that a good many sport bikes have relatively undersized cooling systems (in the interest of light weight) and as a result, they pretty much have a minimum operating speed that will maintain adequate cooling, which is often in the 40 - 50 km/h range, sometimes more. And, idle speed in 1st gear is often 15 - 20 km/h (and it will not maintain adequate cooling in those conditions). Some years back at the Parry Sound Sportbike Rally, the OPP laid down the law when leading the Thunder Run, and forced the ride down to an atrociously low speed, often clutch-slipping-in-1st to go slow enough. My bike ran so hot that it blew a coolant hose, and that cost me a head gasket - and a set of clutch plates.

"But just stop and wait" ... you can't ask EVERYONE to stop and wait. I complained to the organizers about the low speed of the Thunder Run. The next year, they let us move quite a bit faster and it wasn't an issue.

(No, I don't ride in downtown traffic, either. Or in traffic jams, if I can possibly help it.)

I shudder when I see this ... and I see the cops doing it.

I don't want anyone beside me in my lane ... ever. I want that space in case I have to duck around something on the pavement.
