Get you beasts Ready this week-end--!!

Sad to see some of the negativity in here because some people ride differently than others. If you take the necessary precautions, you can ride in almost anything.

Anyway, one danger of riding early in the season no one has mentioned, and in my short experience (6 years or so) has been the worst danger of all: Cagers are even less likely to notice you. They won't be looking for you. They won't be expecting you on the roads. So to all those heading out early, please be extra diligent, leave gobs of extra space, assume every intersection there's a car waiting to turn in front of you!

Good advice. Also be smooth.

Always ride "defensively". From what I've seen, cagers don't notice you at all regardless of the season. The date doesn't matter.

From my limited experience, what does happen though in winter when there are almost no bikes on the road, is that cagers do not drive as quickly and are generally more calm. As a pack, they are mostly content to only move as quickly as the slowest car in their midst... and the slowest car is some one wheel drive junker with bald all seasons and next to no traction.

There are exceptions though. It pays to know your enemy. For example, watch out for the young guys with the 02-03 blobeye WRX's who think they are Tommi Makinen.

In the summertime, if someone is going to overlap you, things are going to happen quickly. Their turn in is a lot quicker than ours. Also with the arrival of summertime comes the super aggressive drivers. The ones who are always jockeying for position... you know the ones.

Just ride as if they are all out to get you, deliberately or not.

If you're worried about getting a rusty bolt or some sand on the road don't worry, companies build motorcycles every day. Let it sit in storage then. I for one will be out riding enjoying life on two wheels. Plus it just leaves more ladies in the short shorts for me as you know they'll be out the first 10c day.

24" of snow fell last night where I live. Some smart prognosticators in this thread.

So got one of the bikes ready this morning,, popped the battery in and let off the stand, will get the other up tonight or tomorrow. Rode into work today, was awesome, looking forward to riding home in the balmy 8c !

getting my bike out of storage tnight, gonna do some maintenance/clean up a bit and send it in for the safety wednesday probably. First season.. the excitement.
