Get you beasts Ready this week-end--!!

Just checked the 2 week forecast on Weather Network, it seems as we are in the positive temperatures after this week-end for the whole week!

I'm gonna put back the batteries in my beasts this week-end!!! This winter possibly clocked the warmest ever to my knowledge, I've never rode in February this much ever in Toronto! I probably rode 5-6 days through out this month, yesterday was awesome to but was busy so didn`t get the bike out.

This winter is officially over!

Very likely some days we'll be able to get out in there but there's still at least a month where we could just as easily wake up to 15cm on the ground (like we're going to see Tue-Wed...)

After the 15cm of snow tomorrow, it's supposed to stay in the negatives until the weekend. The roads are gonna be wet with melting snow + salt residue this weekend.

But the following weekend is supposed to be mostly rain, so maybe that'll clean up the roads nicely.

looks like its 10-12 for a week straight and then around 4-7 the following.. thats good for me, i just got my license in november so i havnt had a chance to ride yet. Ive been counting down the days lol, checking the weather forecast like every day to see changes. This saturday the plan is to get the safety/plates so im ready for the nice weather.

The roads are literally white with that brine stuck on the surface. I am looking forward to the rains cleaning that crap off the road ASAP..

Just because it's positive for a few days doesn't mean winter is done

Wait, you haven't ridden in cold weather? Like, ever?

Hold your horses if you haven't, man. You could very easily end up on your ass and lamenting about your dropped bike. Or worse.

Wait until the temp is a steady double digit and there's no salt/brine on the roads.

Think about the children!

+1 An oz. of preparation is worth a pound of road salt. Following your safety/plates thread with keen interest.

havnt ridden period, but i have heard that the roads will be suspect in the spring from the left over salt and gravel. Im sure ill be taking it easy next week though and get used to quiet streets before i go on any major roads.

If you're going to ride anyways, just a heads up, the quiet/side streets are usually the streets with piles of salt/sand.

My beast is always ready. Just ask my wife.

Rode my bike home from where I stored it all winter yesterday. Lotta salt out there, but luckily all the riding was done on a main road.

It's not just salt and gravel, or at least not quite as simple as that.

The rock salt and gravel/sand are a problem but so is:

a) The pulverized salt that acts like talcum powder under your tires. This is the stuff that gives the roads their white-ish sheen. Be very wary of this material. This is the stuff that most people wait for spring rains to wash away, not just the bigger rock-salt stuff.
b) Cold tires and cold pavement. The car-equivalent to most motorcycle tires are the ultra-high performance summer-only jobs found on sports cars, not all-season tires. When the temperature drops below ~7oC the rubber hardens and grip fades quickly. Use care when accelerating and leaning and accelerating while leaning.
c) Run off. Streams of salty, briny water draining across the road from melting piles of snow. A road can be dry for KMs and then suddenly turn unexpectedly wet in the middle of a corner. Corners can be especially bad because the crown of the road tends to cause the water to run toward the inside of the corner, wetting the entire width of the lanes.

You've got to be extra vigilant in the early spring too as motorists are even less likely to expect to see motorcycles out in traffic in early March and April.

You do realize that this is a weather report for a week hence, don't you?

Those always predict awesome weather that is just out of our reach!

Ez folks. Only 21 days until spring. April 1st looks like a full go for beginning the season. No need to rush into it with the salt and sand all over the road.
