Generators

I just registered on the CT site to be informed when it goes on sale. :)

I didn't know they had this function, lol. Just registered too, have a couple of necessary but not urgent items I'd like to be alerted for. Thanks a lot!

I was looking at those newer Champion inverters... but friends that used Champion gennys say they were unreliable.

I will hold out for a Honda or Yami.

Canadian Tire has a 1200W genny on sale for $189.

That's dirt cheap.. who's going to guinea pig this? :D

I have that ct genny.

Buddy bought and couldn't get started. He went and bought a Honda. End of weekend he tossed in back of my truck as he was headed home to east coast and "not gonna bring that crap back".

I was new to track, didn't even need a genny as I had no warmers. However took home and changed spark plug....

It has started on first pull for 4 years now and runs two sets of Bickle warmers!

Bought a hyundai inverter two yrs ago on a "smoking deal". 2 track days and never started again.

Don't knock the Canadian tire one, it's cost me a spark plug and gas

I ****** around with Hyundai and COleman gennys....even inverter ones...then after lots of problems, I heeded everyones advice and got a Yamaha....they said get a Honda or Yamaha or don't bother at all.
Absolutely zer problems with the new genny. Wish I had ponied up the scratch two yrs earlier. Would have saved me a pile of headaches.

Me too. Had both a Hyundai and a Coleman(briggs and stratton) and they both lasted less than a year each. The Coleman seized; the Hyundai electrical board fried itself.

Bought a yamaha inverter, going on two years now and runs flawless. Great on fuel, whisper quiet, easy starts, light. Got a good deal through a friend and could likely sell it for what I paid for it.

Yamaha/Honda

And the CT profit sharing pays for my tires and fuel....

Win win.

Not as quiet as I'd like but I'm running warmers and nothing else. Started up after 8am and shut down before 5pm. If I was running a trailer or such I would worry about the loudness

It's a race track - its noisy!

Honda bang for the buck. only $899

Honda quality, 2500watts and huge asz gas tank for long days.

Its not an inverter, but if you want the extra protection, just buy a power bar with built in surge protection.

I've used non inverter generators for years on jobsites and home for radios, battery chargers. At home, when using a back up generator, I use my computer, tv and just about every other electronic equipment with no issues.

Meh, i bought a 2500watt Bolton pro genny .. changed the oil twice a season, and replaced the plug each year. I also run premium fuel only and store it properly in the winter.

It has lasted me now 5 years, and runs 2 sets of warmers with ease. Paid $250 for it.

How long has everyones honda inverters lasted?
I bought my Honda 1000 used,,, it runs 16-24 hours a day, I do about 100 to 140 days a year.
I think it was one year old when I got it and I'm on the second year of my use.I also have
a Yamaha 4500 Inverter, which only runs when I need microwave,AC or multiple machines in the trailer.
It's 4 years old and mint!

I've got a Kipor 3000. It's super quiet. About the same as the Honda only WAY less cash. Has enough power to cold start my A/C.

Have a look at the King Canada 2000w inverter generator, I just picked one up, true sine wave electrical, 2100w on startup, 2000w continous. 5hr run time
and at 57 db vs. Honda at 59db , its very quiet.

The actual electrical portion looks suspiciously like the same sub manufacturer as Honda, the engine is a knockoff. Under $400 with a two yr replacement warranty, starts on the first pull so far.

I feel I should point out...

If you're smart you can find an EF or EU 2000 watt inverter for under $1000. You can use it for years and as long as you take care of it (annual oil changes and dont let it fall out of your truck going down the highway) the sell it for the same as you paid for it.

You can buy a new champion or king canada for $500 but resale on it down the road won't be much. In the long run the Yamaha and Hondas are actually cheaper.

Also - don't forget to un-chain it from your truck rim before driving off for a lunch break lol. I almost drove off with it before a friend pointed it out to me.

I picked up my Yamaha 1000 eu for $600 off Kijiji. No need for a bigger one just yet, but I could easily sell it for the same price I bought it for. They are stupid-easy to maintain, so don't be lazy.

This sparked my interest, so I dug some more. Found a relating comment by someone unknown (possibly unreliable), but thought it's interesting to share here:

Many brand names are slapped on generators and sold by various companies. The King Canada unit you are looking at is also sold as a Honeywell, All Power America, Neiko, Gentron and Magna brand for example. Under any of those other names you may find it cheaper. The Champion line of generators are for example sold under 4 brand names that I know of, but only when branded under "Champion" are they supported by the best customer service, warranty and parts availability. BTW the King Canada/Honeywell/Magna got a 4 1/2 star rating from 35 people on Amazon.com.

I had the Honeywell 2000w inverter from Costco 3 or so years ago. Mine was junk. Terrible to start, would cut out occasionally, noisier than the Honda/Yamaha and when the problems started support was non existent. So much so that Costco took corporate pity on me and gave me a full refund on the POS even though it was so far out of warranty. Money which I then took and invested in a used EU2000, which has been great. So please be careful what you're buying if you go for this genny. I can only assume the 4 1/2 score was out of 50. It was a nice colour.

I call BS on this one. Honda's been designing and making generators "in house" before most people on this forum were born.

They were the first-in-class to design and mass market a portable inverter generator in 1989 and have been going strong ever since. They don't need no sub manufacturer to marry their engine to the rest of the unit like the competition do. Everything is designed, developed and engineered in house.

Go with the best on earth, or buy garbage.

Gotta disagree. The Honda/yammi are nice, but not all the rest are garbage.

CT are noisy, but never claimed to be a quiet genny. Most have no problem with the champion brand also, other than again they are far from silent. For the racetrack during the day they are perfectly adequate
