Gearing questions.

Who knew? All those people at Tims and other places, they were testing their bikes and measuring the gauges!

Yea, it goes right to 16.5 hitting the limiter. Does your friend tune the stock ecu or just take restrictions off? This seems like a much better route for me to go. I can wring the throttle in first in a straight line like a 250 and the front wheel wont lift unless I hit a pretty big dip in the road.
He can do whatever you want, load in fuel maps, remove restrictions, etc. etc. What exhaust you running? If you really want to take off the training wheels you need a midpipe, i.e. https://www.dan-moto.com/DM_INT/ind...ducts_id=621&zenid=jnp4oatn9gjbro6e3a69857t17

Yep, works:

My mid pipe is removed. I have the m4 gp with stg 1 baffle muffler meant for the full exhaust but I have it jimmy rigged into the oem header. Next year im getting the same exhaust in full. I dont like not having a proper mount for it. Using some all round right now looped over the oem rear set to hold it up. Seems to work fine enough for now. I have a peice of microfiber wrapped around the all round so it doesn't scratch the rear set.

He can load a fuel map in for that, just make sure it's got no leaks.

I'd still recommend you change the gearing, even with the unrestricted ECU. Go -2 in the front until you wear your stock chain and sprockets out then go with a lightweight chain and sprocket set like the one I linked previously in this thread.

After my trip this june I should have over 21k kms anyway so I was just going to change it all then. The chain will last at least til 40k anyway. I can only really afford to do one of these mods this year and I think it would be better for me to fiddle with the ecu first and see how I like that. Nothing is set in stone though. What would you do first?

I would do -2 front sprocket first, should be under $30, will make your bike feel like 1000cc ;) It'll wear your chain out much faster than 40k so no worries about that, next season get ECU flashed with nice new chain and sprocket set, maybe your full exhaust at the same time, and you'll appreciate the difference more.

If I did decide to get the tune first, would there be any drawbacks to getting the m4 headers later? I dont think they'd be TOO different than oem. Or am I mistaken?

He would probably tune it for the M4 headers so it'll just run a little rich until you install them (and your bike likes rich so no biggie).

Ah wicked. Thanks. I shot Bill a text, he said i should give him a call cause he can explain it better than text. Ill probably call him monday or tuesday. Pretty busy next couple of days with other things on my mind.

He does a really good job and is super knowledgeable. If you ride your bike to him (he's in Niagara Falls) he will ask you all the necessary questions then custom build your map for your ECU. He'll flash it, then you take it for a rip (he lives right by some sweet roads) and then if you need any tweaks or changes he'll update it. Biggest rider preferences are the amount of engine braking you like (how hard the bike slows down when you let off the throttle) and how aggressive the fly by wire throttle map is (more power without having to twist the grip as far).
