What do you go by when buying gear online? Specifically Jackets
Is it more accurate to use chest?
Do you ever use waist size to determine size?

My chest measurement says 2XL
My winter jacket is XL and fits me just fine
My T shirt size is 2XL as well

I dont have my old riding jacket anymore or I would just use it as reference

Havent had the chance to visit a local store as of yet,
but might need to soon, even if its just to see
what fits me the best

For letter sizing, it really depends on the brand.

Icon and other American brands fit larger. I normal wear Medium size clothes, but I wear a Small Icon Jacket.

Rev'It, Dainese and other European brands are more true to size, I can usually count on Medium being a Medium.

For the best fit, know your measurements and try to find gear that has numbered sizing.

But be aware that for jackets and pants, the European sizing is numbered +10 over the standard US sizing. So a 40" chest is Euro Size 50 for jackets, and a 32" waist is Euro Size 42 for pants.

Been looking on fortnine, the sizing charts do a good job of showing fit...the euro stuff isnt even close in terms of fit for someone my size (At least the quality leather stuff)

My biggest confusion is, there is a waist size that goes with the corresponding chest size, but the two arent matching(at least in my case)
I have a chest size, but it doesnt match with what the chart says my waist size should be..
so Im trying to determine if the chest size is more important or the waist size..

I bought shoes online several years ago. They were the correct size, but one was a shade undersize. It bothered my right big toe....Crap!!! Never Again will I buy wearables online.

Best is to try on before making the purchase at a local Bricks-and-Mortar.

I’m all for buying stuff online but if you’re going to go into a store to try on gear do the right thing and buy it from them. It’s not free to stock that stuff or run a business.

If you want to save a bit of money then by all means do the online thing but with those savings you roll the dice a little or cause yourself aggravation having to ship back for an exchange.

A lot of times you cant find the right stuff at the local stores, they dont have a giant warehouse where they keep a huge inventory, what you see is what you get, you cant read reviews either, gather all the info you need before you make the purchase..

The helmet for example Im getting in addition to being snell and feature rich, is also battle tested, one guy ran into a deer and low sided and walked away, another guy got T boned at highway speeds and lived to tell about it, cant find that sort of information at the store

If I find the right gear at the right price and fit, i'll be happy to buy it at the store, but that usually isnt the case in my experience.

I always try items on before I buy online, usually at the MC show right after new years. The last jacket I bought was a Klim from Fortnine, I tried it on about a year earlier so I know the fitment was good for me -- when it went on sale for 50% off - BANG! I pulled the trigger.

Most people are fat these days, so the manufacturers sizing accomodates that. If you have big shoulders/chest but don't have a giant gut, the American stuff won't fit you right. The European jackets (Dainese, etc) will fit better.

Don't buy online. I try them on at the local store, don't bother taking them off. Just pay them and get out.

All my Dainese kits are from GPbikes just because I don't know anywhere else that has that much selection.

Beware of the Chinese sellers. Their sizes are complete baloney. Even when you get chest measurements. Stick with Canadian/U.S./European sellers if you want to go by stock sizes (xl, 2xl etc.).

I checked out an airhawk at a brick and mortar shop. Retail price was ~ 160. Amazon was 130. Asked if they would give me a discount. They said no. Just as I was about to put it back, they told me the sale price - 125, so I saved a couple of bucks.
