Gas Pumps: Fueling

Not really relevant to this thread, but I've had a few times now where some twit gas attendant asked me to get off the bike AND remove my helmet before gassing up. When questioned as to why, they just repeated the request and I said screw 'em and took off to another station... far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve my business if they're going to make stupid demands like that. I always pay at the pump with credit, so it's not like I'm trying to get free gas...

Given the number of credit and debit cards that have been compromised in gas bars, I prefer to pay at the pump where I can actually see the device being used to scan the card anyway. By paying at the pump I never have to deal with the gas & dash paranoia, that results in requests like that.

Apparently at the pump is where most fraud happens. It's far too easy for somebody to stick their own machine over top of the existing one.

Which is why I always check it, prior to pumping. It's easy enough to give a little tug on the card reader's hood, prior to swiping. The second most common place is IN the gas bar, using a dual-line swiper.

Maybe the motorcycle courses need to start teaching students how to gas up a bike? LOL

wait....what?

I got accused of stealing gas once at a Can Tire. I just put half a tank of gas in my Ford Escape and went inside to pay...told the attendant which pump # and she says "OK, that's $109".... or something like that. I said no, mine's the $30 one and she said yes...and the $79 fill up before that.

At this point I had a bit of time but I was getting angry so I asked her where I put this extra fuel seeing as my car will only fit about 60 litres max and she's charging me for over 100 litres of gas..I asked her if she wanted to check my pockets for gas while she looked over the security cameras to see how much gas I maybe drank. She told me she was going to call the manager as I could have had an accomplice...so I asked her how likely it would be for me to come in voluntarily to pay if I was going to steal gas...I also asked her to call the police too if she wanted as she'll notice lots of nice things that won't make sense to her on the security cam.

Anyway...after aboiut 20 mins of her nutter impression she mumbled something about possibly making a mistake and that I could go...so I went...straight to the customer service dept and complained to the manager.

Anyway....this is why I never pay for gas inside now and just use my credit card outside at the pumps. I don't want to deal with the potential nutcase in the booth.

I always fuel up at the same Shell station, and so does my entire family. They are happy to see us and actually know it's us when we come in.

It helps that my dad has a big extended Trailblazer, and that I show up in my Jeep and fill like 5 jerry cans of 91 for the bikes :)

PS: No ethanol in Shell 91 :)

Independent or chain gas bar?

Why do people go inside to pay ? I hate that. I always use my cards to pay at the pump. If you are in line and there are 3 people in front of you, thats potentially a 15 min wait by the time they fill vehicle, go inside come outside, and move. agh!!

I always pay at the pump. Helps that I quit smoking to so I dont have to go inside and buy anything else besides gas! I know some people tend to go inside out of concern for devices at the pumps to get your card info or what not.
