Gas prices going up to $1.40 at midnight

Osama was shot and we don't use Libyan oil so what is the excuse this time?

Peak oil. Actually that was around a decade ago, we're now on the declining side of the oil availability curve. The exponential increase in price to maintain the same level of supply is the clue here.

Couldn't the government implement an extra tax at the pumps ? I know this sounds crazy but think about it. They add a tax and take those funds and put it towards an investment plan. In return adding the equity earned to the public consumer stabilizing and lowering costs in the long term?

Possible, but the Gov't can't manage the money the get now. They would be more than happy to add to their pension plan though.. ;-)

You'd have riots in the streets. No one wants to pay now to save later, they want it the other way around.

Great idea though.

This is sad but true, which is why most of our population is in debt and not so responsible with money; Including our government. Our economy strives on peoples bad spending habits, the government knows this and dose nothing to prevent it. If you ask me our system is #$%^ up. This is why I refuse to vote. I will not partake in the donkey show. ;P

. . . okay I got my rant out of me for today. =D

Love driving a car that takes 94 only, 15c a liter more than what's posted, I'd take the bike instead but there's way too many idiots that shouldn't have a liscence that drive downtown, and it also takes premium and I'm pretty sure it doesn't get any better gas mileage. It's amazing how many people have slowed down on the 401, I do 110 and I'm passing people!

I drove from London to downtown T-oh and back on the weekend and I noticed it too. My regular speed is 105-110. I had the cruise set at 110 pretty much the whole way and ended up being in the left lane a lot more than i usuall am (which is almost never).

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm this is why I love my 2010 Golf TDI. 1,300 KM a tank. Diesel love <3333. Rising gas prices keeps increasing my resale too :D

Yep. mine would do the same according to the manual or VW advertizing. if I could drive 90km/h in 6th gear without getting into a traffic jam. Seriously, if you live in GTA or anywhere close and use the car during a day, there's no way you are getting 1300 clicks to a 55l tank. If you have a wagon I believe your tank is a bit bigger, but not that much bigger ....

I love my TDI too .... ;-)

Time to dust off the bicycle.

That's what I've done. I'm by no means hurting and my commute is short....but it's a bit of fun and fitness so I figured why not.

I've owned 2 TDI's and never gotten more than 1100km/tank on a 55L tank.

My next car will be a TDI again.

One of these days I am going to put the 1.9TDI engine into a 4wd Ford Ranger or the small mazda B something. That would be the idea vehicle for me. 4WD... probably 40ish MPG and the practical bonus of having a truck bed for transporting ****. I rarely ever have more than one passenger with me.

Diahatsu or somebody brought a diesel light pickup to the US last year. Google it

Canada is the only country in the world that sells domestic oil to it's own population at world prices then adds a tax.We are sheep to the slaughter and may I also point out the highest taxed per citizen as well.Common knowledge yet we do nothing to help ourselves.

No we're not the only country in this situation. I visited New Zealand in Jan. and they were paying between $2.00 and $2.06/L for gas and $1.30L for diesel. The NZ gov't sold all of the drilling rights to big oil, then the oil is taken away for refining. At that point they re-import the fuel and sell it to the consumer where it is taxed again. With the cost difference between the two fuels, a significant portion of the population opt for diesel.

Happens from time to time but never catches hold.. Chile has a better selection of light Ford/GM/Chrysler diesel pickups than US and Canada combined. And then you have the Europeans, Japanese, Koreans and even Chinese, all with light diesel-powered pickups on the Chilean market. Makes you wonder.

Gas price high??

Seriously go spend some considerable time in Europe, gas is still cheap here, never hear of anyone siphoning fuel.

Same thing i told the 680 news dude at the gas station this morning, i guess my interview never made the airwaves.

I was having a blast over there, especially since I got to bill a client for renting a little Chevy D-Max for a working honeymoon.. That 3.0l-ish turbo-diesel powerplant had loads of torque, both when haulin' cargo around La Serena and haulin' *** up and down RT-5 through the mountains ;)
